Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
- A minimum of eighteen semester hours in accounting from an accredited college or university;
- Financial accounting, reporting, and analysis experience, including the preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules;
- Reconciliation preparation experience including the ability to work with different file formats and reconcile them to accounting records;
- Knowledge of professional standards, financial reporting, and accounting theory;
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail;
- Organizational skills;
- Ability to prioritize competing projects and consistently meet deadlines;
- Strong oral and written communications skills;
- Ability to work effectively and independently with all levels of staff and management;
- Extensive experience with and proficiency in Excel and automated accounting systems, including the ability to extract and work with large data sets.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in accounting or finance;
- Familiarity with governmental accounting and reporting guidelines;
- Familiarity with the Comptroller of Public Accounts financial reporting guidelines;
- Experience with an ERP system ( SAP, Banner, Peoplesoft);
- Experience with NACUBO accounting.
Job Description
The Accountant II – Financial Reporting & Analysis performs professional accounting functions directly related to the integrity of the university’s financial reporting, such as preparing moderately complex account reconciliations, resolving and correcting outstanding reconciling items through research, inquiry, and journal entries, ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and other authoritative guidance as it applies to governmental accounting, performs duties according to established procedures, completes deadline-driven assignments related to the maintenance and analysis of various accounting and financial records, writes narratives to describe and support courses of action, and prepares periodic financial statements, journal entries, various ad-hoc reports, and on-demand analysis.
Job Duties
- Responsible for the monthly journal entries, reconciliation, and analysis of a variety of accounts, processing stop payments, and the handling of and compliance with unclaimed property, including holder reports.
- Review and analyze general ledger accounts for integrity as well as compliance with applicable principles, standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Identify required adjustments and assist in the preparation of periodic financial statements.
- Assist with the completion of the Annual Financial Report ( AFR ).
- Prepare accounts receivable billings for other departments and components in the university system. Train other departments within the university on the use of the accounts receivable module.
- Extract data and analyze financial transactions and reports.
- Prepare spreadsheets to facilitate interpretation of data.
- Prepare and submit various moderately complex journal entries in the university’s accounting system ( SAP ).
- Work as a team member to facilitate cross-training and perform duties necessary for the effective operation of the department.

Some evening and weekend hours are necessary, with peak amounts of overtime during September and October for preparation of the annual financial report and fiscal year-end close-out.
