Position Purpose

Serve as the lead graphic designer for materials to be produced in digital and print formats.

Collaborate with writers and designers to conceptualize and design materials with high visual impact used in recruitment, retention, student engagement, strategic positioning and outreach.

Design high profile and quick turnaround projects for campus clients such as the President’s Office, Office of Admissions, the Office of Student Experience and Engagement and other on-campus partners.

Conduct photo shoots for high-impact initiatives which will require occasional evenings and weekends.

The Senior Designer and Brand Manager leads and collaborates with writers, videographers, and designers to develop and manage the visual identity of institutional marketing communications to deliver creative results. The Senior Designer and Brand Manager is responsible for overseeing the consistency of internal and external marketing communications to ensure they adhere to UCM branding and positioning.

Actively manage and communicate UCM’s brand to the UCM campus and community.

Lead university branding discussions, communications and presentations with university clients. Serve as the primary contact to answer questions and give guidance about university branding in all forms, including but not limited to print materials, digital applications, interior and exterior environmental branding (paint colors, wall applications, etc.), vehicle applications, etc.

Review and update the branding guidelines quarterly and guide the UCM campus community in all branding projects and decisions.

The Senior Designer and Brand Manager is also responsible for resolving inconsistencies between various inputs regarding design layouts. The Senior Designer and Brand Manager makes final recommendations on element usage, layout, and overall design concepts to the director.

Review and supervise creative work in order to unify design and vision. This includes the overall visual appearance of the communications, and how the content and messages are presented in order to appeal to a target audience. Make decisions about visual elements: what is used, when it is used, and how it is used.

Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate student employees.

Bachelor’s degree in commercial art, graphic design or related field required.

Master’s degree in commercial art, graphic design or related field preferred.

Computer Skills
Word-Processing, Presentation, Desktop Publishing, Other - Internet research and social media.

Experience

Three (3) years of experience in a progressively more responsible position as a brand specialist, lead designer, graphic artist, publications designer, or related position required.

Three (3) years experience managing development and production of four-color publications.

Three (3) years experience using a Macintosh computer and design software to include InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.

One (1) year supervisory experience.

Knowledge of digital printing process and equipment required.

Knowledge of printing preflight required.

Knowledge of branding guidelines and maintenance required.

Ability to write and communicate brand guidance in support of brand guidelines required.

Experience with direct responsibility for brand development and management preferred.

Two (2) years experience in higher education preferred.

Two (2) years agency experience preferred.

Licensing experience preferred.

Photography experience preferred.

Web development experience preferred.

Illustrative video experience preferred.

Must submit portfolio and publications samples as a part of the application process.
