Job Summary

The Auburn University College of Human Sciences seeks candidates for an Academic Advisor I position. Under general supervision, the candidate will advise undergraduate students on course matriculation plans, academic action, problem resolution, opportunities for engagement and career development, and will empower students to achieve professional, personal, and academic goals. This position demonstrates proficient and comprehensive knowledge of Human Sciences undergraduate programs, university policies, and advising applications/platforms.

Essential Functions

Essential functions include but are not limited to:
  1. Advise students in academic and/or curriculum matters
  2. Interpret University policies, procedures, and curriculum to students and other stakeholders
  3. Evaluate and maintain confidential student records
  4. Work with campus partners, academic departments, and advising colleagues to provide essential advising information
  5. Assist with and coordinate registration procedures
  6. Conduct new student orientation programs and assist with preparation for orientation
  7. Complete academic evaluations and certification processes for student athletes, veteran’s affair benefits, etc.
  8. Provide students with information regarding opportunities for professional and career development
  9. Utilize technology to support effective advising
  10. Participate in activities related to professional development
  11. Build and develop transfer student programs and relationships with two-year partners
  12. Clear students for graduation requirements

Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures in academic advising, experience advising incoming freshmen via new student orientation programs, experience working with students in a higher education setting, strong interpersonal and written communication skills, and experience in Microsoft Office, Banner, EAB, and DegreeWorks.
