Job Summary:

The Department of Comparative Biosciences seeks an individual with a strong commitment and demonstrated excellence in teaching. The successful candidate will participate in team-taught courses during the fall and spring semesters that include lectures, active learning exercises, and laboratory-based instruction. Current courses include: Fundamental Principles of Veterinary Anatomy, Anatomy of the Large Domestic Animals, Veterinary Physiology A & B, Veterinary Pharmacology, Veterinary Toxicology, and Veterinary Histology. Typically, lecturers contribute to teaching in 1-2 courses per semester. Specific Lecturer duties include:
- Prepare and deliver lectures
- Prepare and participate in active learning exercises
- Prepare and lead laboratory sections
- Assist students with anatomical dissections
- Attend team meetings and lectures given by other team members
- Prepare and grade lab assessments, quizzes, and exams

Responsibilities:

Facilitates classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction and assists with instructional development and design for a single course or series of courses within an academic discipline to support the delivery of quality instruction. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.
  • 75% Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance
  • 10% Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
  • 10% Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations
  • 5% Contribute to dept service mission (committee service, new curriculum development)

Education:

Required
Terminal Degree
PhD or DVM required, DVM is the preferred degree for this position

Qualifications:

Experience teaching anatomy is strongly preferred (e.g., veterinary, comparative, or human anatomy), as well as teaching or experience in histology, physiology, pharmacology or toxicology. Versatility in teaching multiple courses is required.

Experience or willingness to use teaching-related software such as Canvas, Kaltura, Tophat, and Google suite is helpful. Experience with active and blended learning techniques is recommended.

The successful applicant will be approachable, work well within a teaching team, and will be enthusiastic about teaching first-year veterinary students.

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 75% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed 100% in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
