GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

The University of Guam is looking for an individual who is interested in new challenges and opportunities for professional and personal growth.  This position calls for someone who is self-motivated and adaptable, intelligent, possesses a global vision and who is interested in working in a dynamic, multi-cultural institution.

 

UNIT DESCRIPTION:

 

The Psychology Program at the University offers a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology. The program has four faculty members and a number of adjunct instructors representing the areas of Clinical, Social, Cross-Cultural, Developmental and Experimental Psychology and Behavior Analysis, and is one of the largest programs in the College, serving an average of 100 undergraduate majors. The psychology program supports both a major and a minor in psychology, and also supports the graduate Master of Science in Clinical Psychology. The Psychology Program is housed within the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences in the Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences, a 14-member Division which includes Geography, Political Science, Sociology, and Women and Gender Studies.

 

CHARACTER OF DUTIES:

 

The successful candidates will (a) teach undergraduate courses in areas of experimental psychology including the following: Introduction to Experimental Psychology; Introduction to Experimental Psychology Laboratory; Learning and Motivation; Learning and Motivation Laboratory; Sensation and Perception; Cognitive Psychology; Animal Behavior; Animal Behavior Laboratory; and Psychological Research Seminar; (b) contribute to graduate courses in the University's Master of Science in Clinical Psychology Program; (c) supervise Master's thesis research; (d) conduct an active research program; (e) perform university and community service; (f) seek external funding for research and/or service activities; and (g) explore opportunities for developing and teaching online undergraduate courses. Applicants must be willing to address the needs of the Micronesian region through teaching, research, and service program.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum: (a) A Ph.D. in Psychology with an emphasis in experimental psychology from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent for the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor; (b) training and demonstrated proficiency in research addressing any area of psychology; and (c) evidence of commitment to maintain a continuous record of scholarly activity and to seek external funding through grants and/or contracts. A Ph.D. is required for tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professorship, although ABD candidates may also be considered, but the terminal degree must be awarded by the time of appointment in August 2023. Preference will be given to those application to whom we can offer a tenure-track contract. Must be willing to teach online.

 

Preferred: (a) Ability to address the needs of a multicultural region through the University's teaching, research and service programs; (b) teaching experience at the college or university level, particularly in multicultural settings; (c) experience teaching and supervising undergraduate and graduate students in experimental psychology; and (d) interest in inter-disciplinary collaboration.  Experience working and teaching in  online learning programs.

Police and Court Clearance: Pursuant to Public Law No. 28-24 and Executive Order 2005-34, applicants selected for a position are required to provide original police and court (Superior Court of Guam) clearances of no more than three (3) months old prior to commencement of employment.  Off-island applicants must obtain clearances from their place of residence.  Applicants are responsible for fees associated with obtaining the clearances.

Section 25103, Chapter 25, Title 10 of the Guam Code Annotated requires college or university employees to undergo a physical examination, to include a test for tuberculosis (skin or x-ray), prior to employment and at least annually thereafter. A report of such examination must be conducted by a licensed physician within a state or territory of the United States and must be submitted upon request.

 

Federal law requires presentation of eligibility to work in the United States within seventy-two (72) hours of reporting for employment. Specifically, 8 USC 1324A requires the employer to verify the identity and eligibility to work in the United States of all newly hired employees.
