Overview

The Kocher Lab at Princeton is looking for a Senior Research Specialist I to help study the mechanisms that generate variation in social behavior. Our group studies how genes and environment shape the brains and behaviors of social and solitary insects. We do this by combining cutting-edge genomic and neurobiological tools with field and lab studies.

We are looking for someone with experience in molecular biology (PCR, qPCR, and DNA/RNA extractions) that is excited about generating genomic datasets and managing a molecular laboratory. Your primary role will be to construct genomic and transcriptomic libraries from samples of socially variable bees to aid our investigations of the genetic and environmental factors that shape variation in social behavior. Additional responsibilities will include PCR, qPCR, and sample QC. Lab management responsibilities include maintaining the inventory of lab materials and supplies, ensuring lab safety standards are met, and assistance onboarding and training new lab members.

Depending on your interests and experience, there are many additional opportunities for training and implementation of additional techniques in the lab, from in situ imaging of neural tissue to single-cell genomic library preparations. We will tailor a portion of your time to your specific interests and goals.
