Position Description:

The Senior Institutional Research Analyst works with Institutional Research Analysts and colleagues across Rowan University to gather and review data, prepare reports and special studies. This position analyzes data and statistics related to the core institutional metrics for university leadership, academic support units, state, federal, and survey agencies among other stakeholders. This position also maintains a calendar of regular reports/surveys and communicates with administrative and academic departments in a timely fashion to ensure accurate and punctual submission of surveys.

The Senior Institutional Research Analyst identifies factors affecting University rankings and its programs by analyzing the content of surveys and suggesting impactful changes that help Rowan improve in position. This position is also responsible for clearly documenting the queries, workflows, data definitions, and processes involved in the submission of internal and external surveys. The Senior Institutional Research Analyst identifies anomalies and irregularities in the data submissions and takes a lead role in addressing data issues and data gaps.

Required Qualifications:
  • Four (4) years of professional experience
  • Ability to write complex SQL queries
  • Strong analytical and data management skills
  • Experience employing a multitude of analysis techniques such as Logistic Regression, Decision Trees, and Cluster Analysis
  • Demonstrated experience using ETL and BI reporting tools (Veera, Cognos, Tableau Preferred)
  • Proficiency in at least one statistical software package such as R, SPSS, or Rapid Insights Analytics
  • Aptitude to plan, organize and work on multiple tasks simultaneously and in multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Statistics, or other related field
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proven ability to analyze complex and ill-defined problems/opportunities and a track record of developing and delivering solutions
  • Track record of customer focus, delivery, innovation, and follow through
  • Experience with causal inference, applied time series modeling or machine learning forecasting applications
  • Experience in Python
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Statistics or other related field
Job Responsibilities:

Surveys, Data, Research
  • Work with colleagues across Rowan to gather data and qualitative information to fulfill survey and reporting requirements
  • Audit data and work with academic and administrative units to ensure data quality and address data gaps
  • Develop, document, and maintains accurate queries and ETL processes for pulling data for the surveys and to identify data errors
  • Submit and maintain recurrent institutional reporting, including but not limited to IPEDS, 28 recurring OSHE data sets, Common Data Set
  • Complete, review, and submit external data requests, surveys, and special studies (~100 per year) including IPEDS, NCAA, US News, Princeton Review, ASEE, College Board, Delaware Cost Study, Times Higher Education, etc.
  • Create and implement testing protocols for critical reports and surveys
  • Clearly document the queries, workflows, data definitions, and processes involved in the submission of internal and external surveys and reports
  • Identify strategic opportunities to improve Rowan’s position in rankings surveys and versus benchmark schools
  • Coordinate and submit responses to college guides such as Colleges of Distinction
  • Provide quantitative data and analyses to departments and offices for use in planning and assessment
  • Review data from peer institutions for internal indicators and dashboards
  • Represent the University within the Institutional Research professional community and pursue professional development opportunities
  • Utilize data from external organizations such as the IPEDS and National Student Clearinghouse for institutional outcomes reporting and benchmarking
Statistical Modeling and Analysis
  • Develop predictive, affinity, segmentation, and forecasting models needed to improve Rowan’s position in rankings
  • Design and conduct various studies and analyses, such as cost studies, utilization, impact analyses, forecasts of performance, etc.
  • Research and interpret data from internal and external sources
  • Build and maintain predictive models by identifying patterns in historical data and apply them to predict future outcomes pertaining to IR
Develop and maintain automated Veera data transformation jobs for data analyses and surveys
  • Extract data from various data sources including the operational data store (ODS) and Banner using the VEERA ETL tool
  • Develop data models required for surveys and other reports needed for institutional research reporting
Data Analytics, Reporting & Visualization
  • Transform data into rich, meaningful, relevant insights that can be used to make strategic recommendations based on the knowledge gained from institutional research
  • Develop, implement, and maintain reports, dashboards, and data analytics solutions to help administrative and academic offices understand and track activities and metrics
  • Works with administrative and academic units to identify and prioritize data collection, ensure data validity and integrity, conduct fit-gap analysis regarding reports that currently exist and create solutions for new information needs
  • Develop dashboard solutions for high-level analyses
  • Automate various processes using the R and Python programming languages
Remote Work:

Employee is eligible to work remotely and will come to campus for meetings or collaboration as required. Remote work must be performed from an alternate worksite in New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania or New York. Employees working remotely must still reside in one of these states as their primary residence.
