Essential Functions

The Director of Sponsored Programs promotes and supports University of Nebraska Omaha ( UNO ) research and creative activity at all levels. The Director leads the Office of Sponsored Programs with responsibility for managing all aspects of sponsored programs, from proposal submission to award closeout and audit. They will act as an authorized official for UNO, signing research agreements and contracts, and all related financial reports. They will provide authoritative advice to staff, researchers, and administrators. They will be a member of the Office of Research and Creative Activity ( ORCA ) leadership team and will help to develop, refine, and implement institutional policies and procedures related to sponsored programs and ORCA .

The Director will play a leading role in designing and administering campus-wide training for administrative support staff, unit leaders, and interacting with project Principal Investigators to support research and creative activity.

The Director will adeptly and professionally represent UNO and will ensure institutional compliance with federal, state, agency, and other applicable governing regulations concerning sponsored research.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday 8:00 - 5:00

Required Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree
Required Experience: Five or more years of experience in the pre- and post-award support of grants and contracts. Broad-based knowledge of various government agency ( NIH, NSF, DOD ) and corporate/foundation sponsored program requirements and practices. Specialty knowledge/track record in research proposal development and awards, with a previous supervisory role.

May consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience: Specialty designation of Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator, Certified Research Administrator, or Certified Financial Research Administrator is desired, but will allow on-the-job certification. Financial preparation experience in a higher education setting. Knowledge of legal requirements and ability to learn and represent institutional policies related to research and creative activity. Knowledge of contract terms and conditions with experience preparing and delivering training programs. May consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.
