Essential Functions

The University of Nebraska at Omaha School of Communication seeks an outstanding Emerging Media Studies tenure track Assistant Professor to advance the School’s commitment preparing students for careers in the diverse and multi-platform media environment. The anticipated start date is August, 2023. This tenure-track position will teach undergraduate courses such as Introduction to Media Communication and Journalism, Media History, Media Law and Policy, Media Ethics, Global Media, Communication Research as well as classes related to the applicant’s interests. This position may also teach graduate courses in our Master of Arts program such as Foundations of Communication; Qualitative or Quantitative Research Methods, Political Media and Communication; and/or Popular Culture and Visual Rhetoric.

Located within the College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media ( CFAM ), the School of Communication emphasizes collaborative and entrepreneurial relationships with undergraduate and graduate students. The School has creative leadership, transparent communication, and a collegial faculty and staff. Typically, tenure track faculty members teach three courses per semester including re-assigned time for research/creative activity.

Additional Duties

This position will also teach essential courses that all Journalism and Media Communication majors must take to fulfill school requirements.

Required Qualifications

A PhD in Communication or related area by August 2023; evidence of a strong research/creative activity program and record of teaching effectiveness in relevant areas are the minimum requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching face-to-face and online courses, and some practitioner experience is preferred.
