Essential Functions

The Aviation Institute at the University of Nebraska at Omaha ( UNO ) seeks applicants for a tenure track faculty position. A successful candidate will possess a doctorate in Aeronautical Science, Public Administration, Transportation, Business, Education, or other fields aligned with teaching and research in aviation. Candidates for the position should be able to teach undergraduate courses in the Aviation Institute’s core curriculum. Courses of value for instruction include Introduction to Airports, Airline Operations, Meteorology, Data Analytics, Airport Master Planning, General Aviation Operations, and others. The successful candidate would have a proposed research agenda that would complement our other tenured/tenure track faculty members. This could include research related to safety, human factors, diversity and inclusion, workforce development, crewed and uncrewed aircraft, and more. A successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to teach in higher education and possess strong written and oral communication skills. While not required it would be beneficial for a candidate to hold an FAA pilot and/or remote pilot certificate. ABDs will be considered but must demonstrate the capacity to complete the requirements of the doctorate prior to the August 2023 preferred start date.

UNO’s Aviation Institute is in the heart of Omaha, Nebraska and is a nationally recognized aviation program housed in the School of Public Administration, which provides a supportive and collaborative academic culture. The Institute offers a Bachelor of Science in Aviation with concentrations in Air Transport Administration, Professional Flight, and Unmanned Aircraft Systems. The Aviation Institute is a proud partner in workforce development initiatives with Jet Linx Aviation, Southwest Airlines Destination 225°, United Aviate, Republic Airways, Mesa Airlines, and Envoy Air. Students have an opportunity to join several organizations including Women in Aviation International, Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals, Alpha Eta Rho International, and the National Gay Pilots Association, for example. Additionally, the UNO Flying Mavs compete in the National Intercollegiate Flying Association.

Additional Duties

Provide support and services to the Aviation Institute, School, College, and University. Participate in community outreach and engagement events and activities.

Required Qualifications

Doctorate in Aeronautical Science, Public Administration, Transportation, Business, Education, or other fields aligned with teaching and research in aviation. Excellent ABD candidates may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Any Federal Aviation Administration Certificate(s), flight, dispatch, air traffic control, mechanic, or unmanned.
