Essential Functions

The University of Nebraska at Omaha’s School of Public Administration is seeking a non-tenure track Community Service Associate to join our faculty. We are seeking candidates with experience in local, state, or regional government management and leadership, or equivalent academic experience.

Duties include teaching and outreach contributions to the School. The Community Service Associate is expected to teach two courses per semester, which may be some combination of classes at the undergraduate level, or in the Master of Public Administration ( MPA ), and the Master of Science in Urban Studies ( MSUS ) programs. Potential courses may include, for example, municipal administration and human resources management. Teaching occurs in both face-to-face and online modalities. Outreach includes management of outreach and coordination efforts with public agencies, public service professional organizations, and public service practitioners in the Midwest region. The school is seeking a professional who can develop and build programs that grow the school’s professional relationships with these communities. Such efforts include, but are not limited to: mentorship of students interested in local and regional government careers, organizing professional workshops and seminars, and representing the school at various forums. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position with an anticipated start date of January 17, 2023. Review of applications will begin on 11/28/2022 and continue until the position is filled.

Additional Duties

The Community Service Associate may also be asked to conduct short courses and seminars in Professional programs, such as the Certified Public Manager and Municipal Clerk Institute and Academy programs.

Required Qualifications

Successful candidates will have either: a minimum of four years of management experience in local, state, or regional government, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration or a related field, or; a PhD degree in Public Administration with expertise in the local government management area.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with local government leadership experience.
