The Single Cell & Transcriptomics Core serves the Johns Hopkins Community as well as the world-wide scientific community. The Core provides cost effective Single Cell and Next Generation sequencing and analysis enabling more researchers to access advanced transcriptomics services. We are a fast paced and growing lab that requires additional technicians to aid in sample and data processing. We are seeking a Sr. Research Specialist who will be trained to process Spatial Transcriptomics, in situ sequencing and Single Cell sequencing samples. This position requires attention to detail, sound communication/interpersonal skills (oral and written), as well as commitment to customer service both internal and external.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Basic responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, spatial transcriptomics, in situ sequencing, single cell sequencing library preparation (3 and 5 Gene Expression, VDJ, ATAC), Parse Biosciences, and other single cell library preparation platforms as needed.
  • Sample QC, troubleshooting and guidance for clients, providing educated guidelines and direction for experimental design, data collection, and interpretation based on literature review, technical training, advanced knowledge/understanding of activity, and collaboration with customers.
  • Under guidance of management, will make decisions regarding research projects that may require assessment, revision of objectives, or altering scientific direction.
  • Perform miscellaneous laboratory related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
  • Four years' experience in a comparable laboratory performing relevant techniques.
  • Master's degree, with related graduate research, may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Sequencing library preparation and Illumina sequencer experience.
  • Single-cell library prep experience. Spatial transcriptomics understanding and/or experience; histology (IHC/IF) experience.


Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills, professional judgment and good written and oral communication skills are required.
  • The position may require flexible working hours to meet the demands of clients.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
