Job Summary

The Technician III, Metadata creates and enhances original metadata for information resources in Drexel University Libraries (DUL) collections following established policies and procedures. Reporting to the Manager, Information Access, the technician (one of two) coordinates the flow of library materials from acquisition to the point at which they are made available to clients.

Staff succeed in the Libraries’ matrixed organization structure through active engagement and collaboration.

Essential Functions
  • Original cataloging (MARC and non-MARC) of materials in all formats, including unique materials, such as theses, dissertations, and other research works
  • Complex and simple copy cataloging of physical and online resources
  • Perform batch metadata processing for physical and electronic resources in all formats
  • Process electronic thesis and dissertation submissions and ingest into the digital repository
  • Create NACO authority records; Maintain metadata, including metadata enrichment, quality improvement, and special projects; continually review workflows to maintain and improve efficiency and quality of operations
  • Respond to queries about metadata consulting services (including registering DOIs for Drexel research assets and advising clients about proper application of subject keywords for their research assets)
  • Maintain documentation of procedures; collect statistics and prepare reports as needed; Assist with the training, scheduling, and supervising student employees as assigned
  • Proactively contribute to strengthening the Libraries’ culture of diversity, equity and inclusiveness
Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree or Equivalent and 1 year experience
  • Excellent communication skills with attention to customer service
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management skills
  • Possess initiative and good judgment
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and adapt to new technologies
  • Experience with MS Office suite
  • Able to work effectively both independently and within a team environment in a dynamic matrixed work setting
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive and welcoming work environment
  • Other requirements
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a library or an academic setting
  • Experience with library management systems such as Ex Libris Alma
  • Experience cataloging materials using MARC and RDA standards
  • Experience working with digital repository systems
  • Knowledge of bibliographic utilities, such as OCLC Connexion Client, and metadata schema and standards
