The University of Utah, Donor Relations department seeks a visionary and strategic Director of Events. This position will manage the event team’s coordination, production, design, implementation, and management of a comprehensive event strategy that promotes increased attendance, affinity, and philanthropic support across campus and UHealth.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-Time, Day

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Essential Functions
•    Demonstrated experience conceptualizing, planning, and implementing events for diverse constituencies.
•    Developing a matrix of success metrics and processes for evaluating all signature and special events.
•    Assists with facilitating, forecasting, planning, and developing procedures in customer service, staff management, and budgetary goals and objectives consistent with the University of Utah’s policies.
•    Strong leadership – experience managing and mentoring direct reports.
•    Supervises the activities of staff, volunteers, subcontractors, and vendors as required to successfully execute all aspects of the event on the scheduled delivery day.
•    Supervises the arrangement of logistics for all events, including preparation and dissemination of informational materials and communications regarding the event. It may include, but is not limited to, audiovisual usage, catering, security, supplies, transportation/parking, and guest services.
•    Working with the communications team to integrate promotional outreach and support of event programs.
•    Lead out on signature events, while collaborating heavily with DCPO-Donor Relations and DCPO-Marketing
•    Ability to interface directly with donors, host committee members, chairs, and board members.
•    Lead out on the administration and monitoring of event budgeting, tracking, and event invoice review and approval.
•    Ability to oversee and adequately schedule staff, students, volunteers, and/or hourly workers.
•    Demonstrated experience assessing complex situations and make decisions and/or recommendations across departments and functions.
•    Attentive to details. Skilled in communicating (both written and orally) and building exceptional interpersonal connections with a variety of people
•    Possess a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice and are committed to advancing these values on the events team and within the broader organization.
•    Directs the planning and administration of the unit’s budget and makes spending decisions within budget guidelines.
•    Ensure policies and procedures are followed.
This position may be required to work occasionally on weekends and evenings during special events. Some bending, standing, and lifting are required.

Required to learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow, communicate with donors, and complete tasks in situations with a speed or productivity quota.

QUALIFICATIONS: 
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or related area, or equivalency; eight years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communications skills required.
Master’s degree in business administration, or related area preferred.
This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

PREFERENCES: 
•    Experience in non-profit or higher-ed advancement.
•    Working knowledge of advancement and fundraising principles.
•    Significant experience in organizing and managing events including conventions, galas, building groundbreaking, building dedications, concerts, athletic events, and other large-scale special occasions.
•    Team management experience of 8 or more years.
•    Project management certification a plus.
