Job Description
This position provides financial aid advising to prospective, new, and current NHCC students to assist with academic success, persistence, graduation, and transfer. This position assists the Director in administering federal and state financial aid programs. This position will meet with students, parents, and community members to promote financial aid awareness. This position participates in awarding and verification processes. This position will correspond with various government agencies as well as other duties as assigned. This position will participate in outreach activities both on-campus and in the local community.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or two years of experience working with federal and state financial aid programs
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills are required to maintain positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact with a wide variety of people
- Ability to interpret and apply complex regulations and technical requirements
- Experience working with a diverse population of students, staff and faculty
- Experience working collaboratively as part of a team and on an organization wide basis
- Possess presentation skills to effectively promote and represent the college
- Personal computing/technology skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office software; experience with and comfort utilizing multiple types of technology to provide advising services
- Bachelor’s degree
- Five years of experience coordinating federal and state financial aid programs
- Experience in counseling, career, or academic advising
- ISRS experience
- Experience with data collection and analysis using Access
- Experience using student service database programs, Department of Education software and web-based programs
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of college student development and various learning styles
- Experience working for a state two-year community college
