The Department of Facilities & Administrative Services is a large operational service organization that provides a broad array of services to the campus community through the following offices: Access Control Services, Automotive Services, Building Services, Energy & Central Utilities, Facilities Operations, Grounds & Landscape Maintenance Services, Mailing & Receiving Services, Occupational Safety and Environmental Services and Risk Management Services.
Under the direction of the Senior Director of Building Maintenance, the Supervisor of Access Control is responsible for the supervision of the Access Control shop which consists of 5 staff members. The Supervisor of Access Control is responsible for various types of high quality physical and electronic security service work involving the installation, repair, adjustment, and maintenance of various types of lock systems, components, and related parts and equipment of said systems.
Main Responsibilities:
- Supervises the workflow and performance of 5 staff members within the Office of Access Control Services, including the planning of work schedules & procedures, managing the purchasing of materials & supplies, plan daily tasks associated with work orders received, inspect completed work to note conditions and extent of additional needed repairs; Maintains regular contact with staff and ensures that tasks are being completed as required and within specified periods. Develops performance plans for staff members and provides constructive feedback. Meets regularly with staff to discuss issues, projects and other concerns relevant to office operations.
- Organizes assigned work, analyzes security problems and develops appropriate work methods. Requisitions needed equipment, materials and supplies, and ensures material is properly stored. Maintains accurate inventories of assets and hardware. Ensures that all tasks are performed in compliance with life safety and barrier-free access codes, and college policies and procedures. Ensures the confidentiality and integrity of said work, records and programs. Implements preventative maintenance programs.
- Repairs cylindrical and mortise locksets, padlocks, safe locks and miscellaneous furniture locks. Rekeys various pin and disk tumbler cylinders. Installs locksets and other door hardware. Installs, replaces and repairs exit devices. Does carpentry and other related work to install hardware. Makes keys of various types, and operates duplicating and code key machines. Plans and sets up master key systems. Performs preventative maintenance on lock and door hardware.
- In conjunction with the Electronic Security Specialist and the Low-voltage Technician, provides technical support for all components of the college’s integrated electronic access system as provided by Transact Campus, Inc. Assists with repairs of the integrated access control systems and/or coordinates repairs with other campus offices or outside vendors. Ensures that all access systems are functioning correctly including the programming and maintenance of stand-alone locking units (Saflok, Schlage, Trilogy, etc.). Researches, reviews and recommends new hardware and software to support electronic security solutions.
- Manages the annual budget for the Office of Access Control services, including monitoring expenses and estimating budget funding needed for departmental accounts; Meet monthly with Manager of Facilities Business Operations to review budget and determine steps/actions needed each given month; make sure requisitions, purchases, and materials & supplies follow required procurement guidelines; maintain budget tracking sheet of total costs associated with expenses of the Office of Access Control Services.
- Inspects and makes minor repairs to automatic door operators and manual door closers. Works with vendors to ensure that doors are always functioning as specified; Works with vendors and staff to generate standards and specifications for access control and security hardware for new construction and renovation projects; Submits reports detailing completed work as needed; Works directly with clients to address customer complaints and bring matters to resolution without involving supervisor whenever possible. Provides all services in a pleasant, professional and dignified manner becoming of a staff member of the college. Wears college issued uniform while performing job functions.
- Performs all assignments following established occupational health, safety and environmental policies and regulations. Attends all safety training. Works efficiently, but safely, so as to avoid job related injuries. Maintains requisite professional license(s) as may be required by law; Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee that are within the scope of this position.
- High School Diploma; Possession of a valid driver's license in good standing issued by state of residence is required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of comprehensive knowledge and experience in the repair, alteration, and installation of locks, door checks, and keys of varied types in an institutional setting (e.g. higher education, school district, hospital).
- Supervisory experience of staff involving both traditional locksmith functions and electronic access control.
- Working knowledge and implementation of customer service and quality improvement programs
- Working knowledge of budgetary processes. Proficient in the use of computers for the purposes of communication, record keeping and managing security software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A state of New Jersey Locksmith License.
