Overview of Staff Psychologist

The Counseling Center at Purdue University Northwest is seeking a Staff Psychologist. The Staff Psychologist will bring generalist clinical skills and experience along with expertise in psychological assessment. The Counseling Center provides free and confidential mental health counseling services to currently enrolled PNW students.

Duties and Responsibilities of Staff Psychologist
  • Provide psychological therapy to enrolled students and maintain clinical documentation via EHR
  • Conduct psychological assessment; including supervision of test administration, report writing and interpretation of testing protocols
  • Develop content for strategic planning for Counseling Center services; including outreach, consultation, expansion of services, collaboration with academic departments and student organizations
  • Provide clinical supervision for doctoral level trainees in clinical and assessment practicums
  • Participate in departmental meetings; review and contribute to Department Policy and Procedure
  • Engage in professional training and perform other duties as assigned

Education of Staff Psychologist
  • Ph.D./Psy.D. psychologist from APA Accredited University or Professional School of Psychology. APA Accreditation determines acceptable coursework for study
Experience of Staff Psychologist
  • Five years of general therapy experience working with young adults (doctoral study/clinical practicum/internship/post-doctoral program accounts for years of experience), with special areas of emphasis in psychological testing for LD/ADHD and developmental disorders preferred. Doctoral study from an APA Accredited program accounts for years of professional work experience
  • Currently licensed as Clinical Psychologist or immediate license eligibility in Indiana
Core Competencies of Staff Psychologist
  • Must have the ability to perform clinical evaluation and assessment, intervention and treatment planning with young adults, with special areas of emphasis in psychological testing for LD/ADHD and developmental disorders
  • Provide clinical supervision of testing and assessment for doctoral practicum students
  • Ability to provide generalist therapy to the student population
  • Provide culturally sensitive diagnostic assessment, psychotherapy, treatment and intervention for psychological, social, or other difficulties that interfere with students’ academic success, including; ADD/ADHD and learning disabilities, mood and anxiety disorders, and other psychologically related concerns
  • Must have ability to perform statistics on testing results; working knowledge in the areas of cognitive and personality assessment and psychometrics; ability to follow testing protocols
  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software; ability to use a database
  • As a part of the job responsibilities associated with this position, knowledge of rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA and conference should be maintained, reviewed and practiced to ensure compliance relative to those applicable duties
