Recruitment/Admission/Retention

  • Serves as leader in recruitment and retention efforts for the HL/NI program, providing expertise of program knowledge (working closely with the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Graduate Student Recruiter). Serves on the admission review committee for students applying to the programs and provides final admission recommendations to the Executive Associate Dean for Academics and Accreditation. Provides guidance to student affairs staff on admission issues. Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of new student orientation. Leads communication on behalf of the program for program students as appropriate.

Advisement

  • Works with student affairs coordinators to assure appropriate academic advising, development, and implementation of individualized programs of study, progression and graduation. Advise students on registration (e.g., prerequisites, courses, clinical, directed studies, capstone projects, comprehensive exams or thesis credits). Works with student affairs coordinators to assure all background and health clearances are intact for clinical and/or research experiences. Audit academic records and clear for graduation in conjunction with student affairs coordinators.

Program Quality Management

  • Monitor national trends and standards for specialty area practice and informatics guidelines, relating these to curriculum and ensuring that the curriculum and procedures are in line with these standards. Communicate changes and trends with CON faculty. Assures program is in compliance with American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education, South Carolina Board of Nursing or other professional organization standards as appropriate for the specialty. Participate in on-going curriculum decisions related to program specialty, including course content, sequencing, and evaluation methods. Revises graduate handbook with Assistant Dean of Student Affairs. Work with students to establish and maintain clinical placement sites. Provides orientation materials and contacts with clinical preceptors. Assures students follow clinical contract requirements. Assures appropriate evaluation tools are completed and summary data submitted to the Executive Associate Dean for Academics and Accreditation including preceptor and site evaluations, preceptor clinical data (license, etc.), student clinical logs, preceptor evaluations of students, and/or surveys. Participate in review of quality outcome assessment and revisions as necessary.

Management of Academic Issues within Program

  • Serves as a resource and leader to faculty within the programs. Serves as a resource and leader for students in the programs. Analyze matriculation issues and provide input as requested regarding decisions that affect the student’s progression. Works with Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and/or Executive Associate Dean for Academics and Accreditation to mitigate student issues. Works with the Department Chair and/or Dean to mitigate faculty issues.

Earned doctorate in Nursing (PhD or DNP), two years of teaching and mentoring of graduate students and graduate nursing curricula. Experience as a healthcare leader within nursing. Areas of experience with oversight of budgeting, strategic planning, change management, data science and nursing informatics. Experience with teaching, leadership mentoring , and scholarship. Excellent written and oral communication skills, team building, self-motivation, and innovation in educational program offerings are expected.
