The Senior Director Operations reports to Executive Director-UP and is responsible for revenue cycle operations for University Physicians (UP). This position will oversee professional coding functions, patient financial services including customer service, with the goal of enhancing patient experience and optimizing reimbursement. This position will proactively identify, develop, and execute critical process improvement initiatives to drive best practice performance and favorably impact customer service with patients, accounts receivable and cash acceleration.

The Senior Director Operations will be responsible for the oversight of departmental budgets for areas of direct responsibility and will work in conjunction with Payor Operations. The revenue cycle team is responsible for cash collection. This position has four direct reports including Director Patient Accounts, Director Professional Coding, Director Revenue Integrity, and Director Data Analytics. Shared report of Manager, Revenue Cycle Training with MU Health Care Senior Director Revenue Cycle.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Broad understanding and experience within physician practice operations.
- Demonstrated progression in experience and responsibility in revenue cycle operations including accounts receivable management and professional coding with a proven track record of leading complex projects to successful completion.
- Strong working knowledge of billing and collection processes and functions, denials management, revenue integrity, professional coding, State/Medicaid rules & regulations, Government audits, financial and service line reporting experience and general revenue cycle management strategies, and industry best practices.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and planning abilities

Strategy:
- Develop strategy for Revenue Cycle and ensures everyone is educated on the direction of the department.
- Develops strategy and oversees programmatic implementation efforts around: insourcing/outsourcing services, as well as tools and technology deployed.
- Leads Revenue Cycle work/efforts surrounding evaluation of implications of new business models and ventures.
- Maintains extensive knowledge of revenue cycle and regulatory requirements associated with governmental, managed care, and commercial payers.
- Propose and analyze (including ROI) new technology and processes to maximize efficiency and accuracy in the revenue cycle process.
- Assist in establishing annual budgets, and ensure the departments are operating within these budgets.
Identifies any payer relation reimbursement issues that need to be addressed with payers.

Program Oversight:
- Reports to UP Executive Director on Revenue Cycle performance metrics.
- Ensures staff development and training materials are current, compliant, complete, and progressive.
- Ensures internal staffing meets productivity and competency benchmarks, and external staffing (outsourcing) meets quality benchmarks and is competitively priced.
- Monitors A/R effectively and ensure aging categories are within established goals and national benchmarks.
- Ensures effective management of denials.
- Prevents recurrence of issues that can cause revenue leakage and/or compliance risks through effective, efficient, replicable processes and internal controls across the continuum of patient care, supported by appropriate documentation and application of sound financial practices.
- Responsible for charge master structure and maintenance across UP.
- Ensures goals and objectives including productivity goals are established and monitored.
- Ensures a process is established for reviewing and approving refunds.

Compliance/ Risk:
- Oversees Revenue Cycle policy and procedures, to ensure compliant alignment with regulatory and legal requirements.
- Provides necessary governance with optimal integration and operational control of disparate Revenue Cycle functions and systems to optimize revenue cycle management performance.
- Develops and maintains internal controls to target revenue recovery throughout the organization by identifying charge capture, coding, and reimbursement problems then recommending/implanting solutions.

Salary

Salary Range: $103,000 - $222,000 Anually

Grade: GGS-015

Minimum Qualifications

A Master's degree in a relevant area and 8 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired OR a Bachelor's degree in a relevant area and 10 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) certification is preferred
• MBA or MHA is preferred
