  • Bergen Community College is accepting applications for adjunct positions in the division of Health Professions. Below are the disciplines we are currently hiring for and the requirements for each.

    Nursing Department:

    The mission of the nursing program at Bergen Community College is to educate students and graduates to pass the nursing licensure examination to assume an entry-level position as a registered nurse. Nursing students are actively involved as self-directed, responsible partners in the learning process. Students are educated in the classroom, in the nursing skills and simulation laboratories and in a variety of clinical settings. Depending on their schedules, students have the option to pursue a nursing day or nursing evening program. The program uses technology such as Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) and the Human Child and Adult Patient Simulators to enhance learning, skills mastery and critical thinking in the application of the nursing process. The nursing program is approved by the New Jersey State Board of Nursing and is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.

    Courses and Requirements:

    Nursing (Adult Med Surg)
    Required: Master’s degree in Nursing. Current NJ RN License, three (3) years of current clinical experience, one year of college level teaching in an accredited Nursing program

    Nursing (OB/PEDS)
    Required: Master’s degree in Nursing. Current NJ RN License, 3 years of current clinical experience, one year of college level teaching in an accredited Nursing program. Specialty certification preferred.

    Medical Office Assistant:

    The mission of the medical office assistant program at Bergen Community College is to train students in medical office assistant techniques and procedures in order to prepare them for the licensure examination to work in the field. Medical office assistants are multi-skilled practitioners who perform administrative, clinical, and management duties. Graduates may work in physicians’ offices, clinics, HMO’s, billing companies, or other ambulatory care facilities, such as freestanding emergency centers and hospitals. Clinical responsibilities include performing laboratory tests, taking electrocardiograms, injections, vein punctures, sterilization techniques, vital signs, and assisting with minor surgery. Administrative responsibilities include scheduling appointments, billing and collecting, coding diagnoses and procedures, insurance claim forms, medical records, performing computer applications, and providing patient instructions. Graduates of the medical office assistant program at Bergen Community College are prepared to take the Certified Medical Assistant examination by the American Association of Medical Assistants.

    Courses and Requirements:

    Medical Office Assistant
    Required: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) ( American Association of Medical Assistants) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) American Medical Technologist. Minimum Associate degree in Medical Office Assistant. 1 year of experience in Medical Office Administrative procedures.
