  • Bergen Community College is accepting applications for adjunct positions in the division of Business, Arts and Social Sciences. Below are the disciplines we are currently hiring for and the requirements for each.

    Business Department:

    Located in close proximity to New York City, the business program at Bergen Community College is a rigorous yet rewarding program designed to turn prospective business students into working professionals.     Courses and Requirements:

    Business
    Required: MBA or other Masters in a business-related field required. Minimum of one year of college teaching experience in related business courses, preferably including community college teaching experience. Experience working in business industry is required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as technical skills and must be detail oriented. Technologically proficient in common office desktop software and familiarity with cloud-based collaborative software and platforms; Knowledge of Moodle, Canvas and other applications is preferred.

    Social Sciences Department:

    The department of social sciences at Bergen Community College offers a wide variety of in-person and online courses in anthropology, economics, political Science, psychology, sociology and social work. The courses in the department are part of degree-granting programs and most satisfy requirements for general education. Students should select courses in the department by the statement of requirements for the specific programs in which they are enrolled. The goals of the department include providing a variety of social and behavioral scientific paradigms for students to analyze the complexities of individual, group, community, and societal relationships and issues within a global arena. By stimulating intellectual curiosity and critical thinking, students can gain a valuable foundation for personal growth and application towards further study and ultimately a rewarding career.

    Courses and Requirements:

    Sociology
    Required: Master’s degree in Sociology or Social Work or related field; prior community college level teaching experience preferred.

    Psychology
    Required: Master’s degree in Psychology or related field; prior community college level teaching experience preferred.


    Economics
    Required: Master’s degree in Economics or related field; prior community college level teaching experience preferred.

    Political Science
    Required: Master’s degree in Political Science or related field; prior community college level teaching experience preferred.

    Anthropology
    Required: Master’s degree in Anthropology or related field; prior community college level teaching experience preferred.

    Hotel Restaurant Management Department:

    The mission of the hotel and restaurant management program at Bergen Community College is to provide the knowledge and skills needed in the rapidly expanding hotel and restaurant industry. The goal of the hotel restaurant management program is to develop 21st century culinary and hospitality professionals through high quality practical, theoretical, and analytical course work. The program emphasizes culinary arts, catering, and hospitality and lodging. Students pursue their studies through active learning and mentoring opportunities with a focus on leadership, critical thinking, personal growth as well as interaction with industry professionals both in class and in their chosen field. Through the externships, the program prepares students to become leaders with the ability to shape the future of the hospitality and culinary industry. The program offers concentrations in the following areas including culinary arts, baking and pastry arts, catering and event planning, and hospitality/lodging.

    Courses and Requirements:

    Hotel Restaurant Management (Pastry Arts)
    Required: Five (5) years experience in a high volume, recognized NYC food establishment or other as an executive pastry chef, pastry chef, Sous pastry chef, bakery production manager or other related position. Experienced in cake decorating and tempering chocolate is a must.
    Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management, Hotel-Restaurant Management, Culinary/Pastry Arts or equivalent.
