Job Summary:

University Health Services (UHS) provides care across multiple clinics: Primary Care Clinic, Lakeshore Walk-in Clinic, Gynecology, Sexual Health, Travel Medicine, and Community Health.. This position provides 100% direct clinical care to the UW student population and will operate mainly in the Primary Care and Lakeshore Clinics. The Physician Assistant will report to an Advance Practice Professional (APP) Supervisor.

-Assesses, diagnoses, and treats illnesses, and manages chronic health problems
-Develops, implements, collects data and evaluates health care services as directed by individual care plans
-Develops individualized care plans based on medical assessments in accordance with medical best practices and established rules and regulations
-Educates patients and their support systems on how to manage conditions and to promote the health and well-being of patients and those around them
-May provide expertise, training, and guidance to the community, peers, and/or students
-Collaborate with other advance practice professionals, physicians, nurses, nurse care managers, mental health professionals, dieticians, and other health care staff in the care of student patients.
-Maintain timely electronic medical records.
-In addition to providing care in the main Primary Care Clinic and the Lakeshore Walk-in Clinic, responsibilities may also include, after appropriate training, providing care in Gynecology, Sexual Health, Travel Medicine, and Community Health.

Participate in the development and delivery of programs to meet the needs of a college population.

Responsibilities:

Provides health care services under a collaborative care agreement with physician. Educates patients, develops and evaluates care plans, and prescribes medications and treatments in support of patient health and well-being.
  • 40% Assesses, diagnoses, and treats illnesses, and manages chronic health problems
  • 15% Develops, implements, collects data, and evaluates health care services as directed by individual care plans
  • 15% Educates patients and their support systems on how to manage conditions and to promote the health and well-being of patients and those around them
  • 30% May provide expertise, training, and guidance to the community, peers, and/or students

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree
Graduation from a Physician Assistant Program and Certification as a PA

Preferred
Master's Degree

Qualifications:

Required:
Minimum 2 years clinical experience working as Physician Assistant (PA) post PA training in an outpatient setting( Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Urgent Care, ER)

Experience in Assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow up for common medical issues seen in college health

Beneficial experience includes:
Office procedures such as suturing, splinting, incision and drainage, skin biopsy, cyst excision and cryotherapy;

Gynecology experience with office procedures such as obtaining pap smears, insertion and removal of intrauterine devices and contraceptive implants;

Or willingness to learn procedures.

License/Certification:

Required
PA - Physician Assistant License
Licensed in the state of Wisconsin or able to obtain license prior to start date

BCLS - Basic Life Support
