Job Summary/Basic Functions
The Department of American Sign Language and Interpreter Education seeks a tenure-track assistant professor. Primary responsibilities for the position include teaching undergraduate level interpretation, American Sign Language (ASL), and/or Deaf studies classes. Faculty members will primarily teach face-to-face classes. Online synchronous or asynchronous formats may also be used from time to time.
In addition to strong teaching abilities, this position requires scholarly/creative productivity and service at department, college, university and professional levels. Other duties will depend upon the needs of the ASLIE department.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: MS/MA degree in interpreter education, ASL instruction, linguistics, Deaf studies, deaf education, or a related field from an accredited or internationally recognized institution.
Experience: - Native or near-native fluency in American Sign Language.
- College/university and/or P-12 experience.

- Possess teacher dispositions that include a commitment to student success, ethical character, critical and creative thinking, flexible, and superior communication skills. Faculty are expected to be accountable, self-directed, and life-long learners.
Licensure & Certifications: RID (CSC, CDI, CI, CT, NAD IV, NAD V, NIC, CASLI), BEI Advanced, and/or ASLTA certification
Preferred Qualifications:
-PhD or EdD in a related field
-SLPI Advanced Plus or higher, or ASLPI level 4 or higher
-Experience teaching ASL, Deaf Studies, or interpretation courses
-Experience mentoring students in language learning, interpreting skills, professional decision-making, and applied research projects
-Skill in curriculum development and instructional design
-Knowledge of CCIE standards
-Knowledge of ASLTA standards for learning ASL
-Knowledge of NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements and ACTFL performance descriptors for language learning
-Teaching experience using the Signing Naturally curriculum
-Ability to wisely use educational technology
-Experience delivering effective on-line and/or distance learning courses
-Experience developing applied research projects to solve practical problems and contributing new knowledge to the field.
