For the 2021-2022 academic year, we enrolled over 11,000 students in which 74% identify as Latinx, 6% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 2% as Black/African American, 16% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 2% as multiracial. The successful candidate will join a college dedicated to the students it serves.
Under administrative direction, the Counselor/Coordinator, Career and Employment Center will provide academic counseling to dual enrollment and general population students and coordination of enrollment and onboarding efforts to help support pathways to college among impacted groups within our service areas. Duties of the Counselor/Coordinator, Career and Employment Center will including the following:

  • Provide the total range of community college counseling services, including career and educational planning, orientation, assessment interpretation, transfer, student outreach and personal counseling;
  • Provide support for enrollment and onboarding activities for identified groups of students and communicating regularly with high schools, students, parents, counselors, and faculty as a primary contact on campus for dual enrollment;
  • Provide information on the college and promoting academic pathways on behalf of the college;
  • Instruct counseling classes for college success, career planning, study skills and transfer preparation;
  • Ensure that the guidelines and requirements for high school faculty are in compliance with Reedley College's dual enrollment program;
  • Maintain dual enrollment handbook for the college and local high schools;
  • Assist students in the development of a student education plan (SEP);
  • Plan, implement and assess student learning outcomes and program level outcomes to improve student learning;
  • Plan and conduct multi-media classroom presentations and large presentations;
  • Implement retention strategies;
  • Integrate technology into counseling functions;
  • Work with the webmaster, develop a website to have continuously updated information available for high schools and the community;
  • Assist in the coordination of Wonderful/Ag Prep program, including summer camp planning and facilitation;
  • Work collaboratively with faculty members, counselors, staff and administration;
  • Participate in the implementation of Student Equity activities and Student Support Services Program activities;
  • Assist in the building of collaborative relationships with college faculty and high schools;
  • Collaborate with deans and faculty to build academic pathways;
  • Participate in and serve on department, division, and college committees, meetings and regional and statewide workshops, meetings and activities, and other related functions;
  • Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
  • Work on assignments in a variety of settings and times, including evenings and/or weekends as needed (Note: counseling/coordination duties will often take place off-campus at our partner high school sites in our service area);
  • Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of faculty as required by Administrative Regulation 7122; and
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; AND

  • Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling ; OR



  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); OR

  • A valid California Community College Credential; OR

  • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

NOTES:
If the degrees posted on your transcript(s) do not match EXACTLY as stated above, you MUST petition for equivalency.
A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.


Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience in designing and preparing Student Educational Plans (SEPs) for community college students;
  • Experience teaching courses in career and personal development;
  • Experience in developing and presenting counseling related workshops and orientation sessions;
  • Experience providing counseling and follow-up services to students on probation or academic dismissal status;
  • Knowledge of California Community Colleges matriculation processes;
  • Knowledge of student development theories pertaining to community college students;
  • Demonstrated ability to connect students with on/off campus resources to assist them in their college life management;
  • Demonstrated ability to use a broad range of technology pertaining to data collection and analysis for student success;
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with faculty in academic divisions and engage in collegial dialogue on issues of student success;
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and best practices in education;
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience working with individuals of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds;
  • Experience with dual enrollment and K-12;
  • Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Related work and professional experience;
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff; and
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.


Conditions of Employment:
181 duty days per year, contingent upon funding. Duty days will be prorated based upon start of assignment.

Salary and Benefits:
Annual starting salary is $60,678 - $93,414 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,270 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection advisory committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.

The selection advisory committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President and College President for final interviews.

A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.

About the College
Reedley College is located in the Central San Joaquin Valley of California in the city of Reedley, which has a population of approximately 25,000. Known as “The World’s Fruit Basket,” Reedley is in one of the richest agricultural regions of the world. Reedley College was established in May 1926 as Reedley Junior College. Reedley College is located on the historic T.L. Reed Ranch, bordering the Kings River which spans over 420 acres, including a 300-acre farm.
