Job Description

Classification Title:

Postdoctoral Associate

Job Description:

Postdoctoral position in microbial chemistry and drug discovery is available in the laboratory of Prof. Sandra Loesgen at the Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience, University of Florida, in St. Augustine, Florida.

Research in the Loesgen Lab is focused on understanding the diversity and bioactivity of metabolites produced by microorganisms. We employ a multidisciplinary approach to isolated and identify compounds from terrestrial and marine fungi and bacteria, with an emphasis on inter-species interactions. We have extensive expertise in NMR, MS, metabolomics, and computations to determine the absolute configuration of metabolites, and test compounds for human health application in-house for anti-cancer, antibacterial, or anti-nociceptive activity. Ongoing projects range from chemicals involved in fungal symbioses, signaling in coral-algae recognition, marine microbiomes' effects on their hosts specifically regeneration and metamorphosis, metabolites from rare marine Actinobacteria, defense and pigmentation in Cnidarians.

Experience in natural products chemistry especially mass spectrometry (HRMS, metabolomics) is required for this position. Background in analytical chemistry and structure elucidation (NMR, chromatographic separations), and in vitro phenotypic assays is a plus.

The Whitney Lab is a diverse, inclusive, and multidisciplinary research institute. Mentoring, training, and career satisfaction are of high priority.
