SMSU's Assistant Professor of Social Work position is a full-time, probationary faculty position. The faculty member’s primary teaching responsibilities will include components of the generalist social work curriculum at SMSU. The position would teach any of the social work courses currently offered with a potential to add elective courses if time and numbers in the program allow.  Courses are expected to be delivered face-to-face and both synchronous and asynchronous online delivery methods. The teaching load for the position is 4:4 each semester with summer teaching opportunities.  The position will engage in scholarly and creative activity, contribute to student growth and development, provide academic and professional advising and serve the SMSU Community. SMSU, in its commitment to meeting the service needs of the region, expects faculty to engage in regional service, education or study as part of their community service responsibility.  The SMSU Social Work Program strongly desires to have a diverse program both in students and faculty so applicants who self-identify as diverse are strongly encouraged to apply.  Travel may be required for this position for the recruitment and advising of students.

The SMSU Social Work program has been accredited for 30 years and offers students a BSW degree both on campus in Marshall as well as a fully online program where students from around the country can complete their four-year degree completely asynchronously.

Minimum Qualifications: Qualified candidates for SMSU's Assistant Professor of Social Work position will meet the following expectations:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited university. Two years of post-MSW practice experience. Documented teaching experience at the college level. Experience with online course delivery and online delivery technologies. Be licensed as a social worker or be able to obtain license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in a human service-related field or a Doctorate of Social Work. Demonstrated commitment or proven strategies for fostering a diverse and inclusive environment; Demonstrated ability or proven strategies to teach and work with persons from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated commitment to the NASW Code of Ethics Student-centered approach to education and a commitment to helping grow the social work program.
