Founded in 1879, Curry College is a private, four-year, liberal arts-based institution in Milton Massachusetts. In addition to the main campus classes for adult learners are also offered at our campus at Cordage Park in historic Plymouth. Job Description:

Nine-month, 20 hours per week position responsible for developing and implementing programs that foster the spiritual growth of all students. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Engagement and Diversity, the Director of Spiritual Life will collaborate with other student affairs professionals, and others in the Curry community.

Essential Functions:

1. Develop and Implement:

  • Plan and coordinate weekly chapel services and other worship services as the need arises;
  • Promote understanding of different faith traditions and help integrate faith-based learning throughout the campus community;
  • Planning, visioning, and executing short- and long-term strategic goals. Oversee Spiritual Life daily operations; lead planning, and management for department budgets, including preparing and tracking related income and expenses;
  • Supervise and mentor a team of student staff members, actively engage thru advocacy, inclusion and supportive programming and campus departments/programs to establish and sustain strong collaborations in support of student religious and spiritual needs and interests;
  • Collaborate with community partners to provide consultation, support, and training promoting positive campus climate and student retention, with emphases on religious and spiritual campus life. Mentor staff, students, and student organizations to foster mutual understanding and respect between diverse religious communities on campus.

2. Programming:

  • Oversee religious life groups by facilitating small group ministries, including spiritual interfaith, bible studies, and others as needed;
  • Organize, implement, and/or participate in special services (e.g., Memorial, etc.)

3. Manage and Collaborate:

  • Serve as a liaison to specific campus faith-based groups and maintain healthy relationships with leaders of other ministries on campus;
  • Manage the website, marketing material and social media channels associated with Spiritual Life;
  • Manage and collaborate with the Spiritual Life Advisory Committee to support student engagement;
  • Serve on related committees and task forces as assigned Key Task;
  • Manage the O'Tool Chapel.

4. Spiritual Care and Emotional Support:

  • Primarily for students and secondarily for faculty and staff, provides spiritual care and emotional support to the Curry College community;
  • Nurtures the spirit of community on campus through organization of faith-based programs and events;
  • Seeks opportunities for fellowship with students both formally and informally.

Additional Functions:

  • Administrative functions such as writing reference and recruiting letters, meet with tour groups, hold membership on the Milton Inter-faith Community Association (MICA), attend open house and new student programs when deemed necessary;
  • Effective written and oral presentation skills;
  • Effective organizational and administrative skills;
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines, and respond to students' legitimate needs in a timely manner;
  • Ability and willingness to work with students of all backgrounds, religions and skill levels, and academic backgrounds;
  • Ability and willingness to perform clerical work for oneself, as necessary;
  • Basic leadership, budgetary, and supervisory skills. Basic computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, email, and Internet use;
  • Willingness to work evenings and some weekends;
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor of his/her designee.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a Master's degree in Theology, Religious Studies, or closely related field.
  • Experienced in and effective at conducting worship services.
  • Prior training and experience in personal counseling.
  • Basic computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, email, and Internet use.
