ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF SOCIAL WORK (Job ID 19297)

This job announcement is being announced simultaneously with the Lecturer in Social Work position (Job ID 19298). Vacancy will be filled with either one (1) Assistant or Associate Professor or one (1) Lecturer. More information is provided below in the Application Instructions section.

The Department of Counseling, Rehabilitation, and Human Services is seeking a candidate for a tenure-track, full-time, 9-month academic year faculty position starting August 2023. The successful candidate will be passionate about and committed to promoting the development of an equitable and inclusive learning environment. The appointment will be at the assistant or associate professor level and rank will be determined at time of hire commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. The Department supports a variety of contemporary teaching modalities including in-person, blended, and distance learning environments. Summer work coordinating the social work certificate program is anticipated with the option to teach summer courses.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • MSW or higher degree from a CSWE accredited graduate program
  • Two years post MSW social work practice experience
  • Eligibility for Wisconsin social work licensure and licensure within one year of hire
  • Interest in advancing student learning in area of social work
  • Demonstrated success working with diverse stakeholders

Preferred:

  • DSW/PhD in Social Work or related social science field
  • Evidence of teaching excellence in higher education or potential to develop teaching excellence
  • Evidence of established scholarly productivity or potential to develop professional and scholarly productivity
  • Potential to lead and coordinate the social work certificate program
  • Online teaching ability and interest
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing a climate (work environment) that embraces equity, diversity, and inclusion.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Teach 12 credit hours per semester (4 courses) including five core social work classes, supervising field placements, and other human services courses as needed by the department. Lead and coordinate the social work certificate program.  Demonstrate commitment to a generalist social work practice including diversity, gender, aging, mental health, and other issues.  Engage in ongoing student-centered instruction, advisement, and assessment of student learning; scholarly activity including research, publication, and grant-writing; and university, professional, and/or community service.   Collaborate across disciplines and work well with others in an interdisciplinary department, contributing to academic program assessment and continuous improvement processes.
