Diffusion & Connectomics in Precision Healthcare Research at University of Pennsylvania, which is led by Dr. Ragini Verma, is a pioneer in computational methods for diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) processing and analysis, with specialization in neuroimaging. DiCIPHR focuses on developing and applying
advanced image analysis methods for imaging biomarker discovery and precision imaging for brain cancer, traumatic brain injury and autism spectrum disorder.
DiCIPHR is involved in the analysis of multisite and multimodal data.
Job Description
Director, Research DiCIPHR
As a Director, you will oversee all aspects of neuroimaging research at DiCIPHR. You will establish processes for consistent harmonization, processing and analysis of multi-site dMRI datasets with very large sample sizes, and multimodal connectomics. These processes will involve data organization, harmonization and integration, application of processing algorithms and methods, automated and semi-automated quality verification of processed data, and statistical and machine learning based analyses, biomarker application and testing for clinically oriented research. You will supervise and manage a team of data and image analysts. You will collaborate with researchers and students
in the lab for translation of their novel methodologies to existing datasets. You will also work in close collaboration with external collaborators for the management of dMRI data processing in several ongoing multisite studies. You will also oversee development of novel methodologies towards translation of our image processing algorithms. You should have expertise in computer science, with solid background in python programming, data and image analysis and statistical analysis. You should have expertise in neuroscience and neurological disorders and diseases, as well as experience in development of advanced dMRI processing methods. The successful candidate will have extensive experience leading the processing and analysis of large multi-modal/multi-site neuroimaging datasets with a strong record of publications from these analyses.
This position offers the opportunity to interface broadly internally & externally with diverse clinical areas, and academic and industry partners. Joining DiCIPHR offers scientific professionals the unique opportunity of being involved in development of precision therapeutics.
Responsibilities:
- Design, set up and supervise application of processes for consistent processing and analysis of multi-site dMRI datasets with very large sample sizes in ongoing imaging consortium studies. Oversee the training of data and image analysts and assist them in decision making and solving problems encountered during image processing. Inspect integrity and data quality of final dMRI and connectomics results, reproducibility of processing pipelines and deployment of software tools used for dMRI processing and tractography
- Manage data collection and analysis efforts within the lab in multiple ongoing studies. Address questions/requests related to further analyses of derived MRI data. Facilitate access to structured MRI data by other researchers in the lab and translation of novel methodologies to existing datasets. Participate in writing research papers to report results of analyses using clinical, cognitive and MRI data.
- Communicate with collaborators from around the country and internationally, as part of on-going consortia. Based on these discussions, refine the design and execution of scientific studies. contribute to manuscripts for publication in peer- reviewed scientific journals and attend meetings and conferences as needed

Qualifications:
- A Bachelors' Degree in Mathematics, Statistics/Biostatistics, Computer Science/Informatics, or related imaging science field, and 7- 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Strong computational skills (Python, Dipy, Matlab, statistical analysis packages, advanced shell scripting, high level of experience in Unix platform), proficiency in FSL and fiber tracking software, and strong problem solving, and organizational skills are a must.
- Experience in creating and using advanced multi-site statistical and diffusion MRI analysis packages.
- Scientific knowledge of dMRI is required, in addition to programming knowledge.
- Extensive knowledge of neuroscience research in autism, traumatic brain injury and neurosurgical planning of brain tumors;
- Strong publication record demonstrating deep and broad knowledge of the area of brain image analysis is required, both in terms of methodology development and application to clinical studies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams and experience in leading teams.
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills are needed to support multiple projects
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all HIPAA-related Personal Health Information (PHI) at all times is essential, and knowledge of image retrieval from clinical systems like PACS
- Must be able to exercise initiative and judgment in setting priorities and working independently.
- Highly functioning, detail-oriented, and analytical candidate who can think strategically;
- Very good communication skills to work collaboratively with a diverse group of researchers, clinicians and industry partners;
- Success in roles requiring execution of multiple tasks while responding to multiple priorities;
