Job Description Summary
The Associate Director, Facilities Planning, provides vital space planning and pre-design expertise to structure and manage the programming and physical planning of capital construction projects to meet the Perelman School of Medicine space needs. Reporting to the Senior Associate Director, Facilities Planning, and working closely with the Senior Director, Program & Facilities Planning, the Associate Director will interface with research, academic, and administrative stakeholders at all levels to develop programming and space planning scenarios for a broad range of capital and strategic planning initiatives ranging from new buildings to modest office renovations. Additionally, the Associate Director will develop facility programming and planning analysis, recommending appropriate allocation of facilities resources, and implementing facilities initiatives in support of the School's mission. This position is considered “essential.”

Job Description

Education and Experience: Bachelor of Architecture, Facilities Management, or related technical field and three to five years' experience in the planning and design of research facilities or similar design renovation/construction projects of medium size or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.

Preferred: Five to seven years' experience in the planning and design of Research or Healthcare, preferably in a medical school or academic environment.

Licensure as a Registered Architect or Certification as a Facilities Management Professional by the International Facilities Management Association is preferred.

Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize deliverables, and organize workload


Additional Technical Requirements:
  • Dynamic and tech-savvy. Proficient with MS Office Suite (MS Project, PowerPoint, & Excel), Auto CAD (Revit proficiency is preferred), and Bluebeam Revu. Prefer advanced proficiency with MS Excel including ability to sort, merge, and filter data, create pivot tables, use macros functions, lookup functions, and conditional statements/formulas
  • Ability to learn new facilities management- and database-driven software applications such as SQL Server and Tririga
  • Working knowledge of building codes/standards and the application thereof


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The Perelman School of Medicine is a multi-building research and teaching complex with emphasis on biomedical research. As such, and to ensure successful fulfillment of its mission (research and education), the School Community requires a much higher level of support service delivery than usually experienced in a typical academic environment. Problems that would be mere annoyances in some facilities have the potential of destroying thousands of dollars and months or years of often-irreplaceable work. The Department of Space Planning & Operations is responsible for coordinating and assuring uninterrupted delivery of the necessary utility and other support services.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
