Senior Research Investigator (Gene Therapy Program)

Job Profile Title
Research Investigator, Senior

Job Description Summary
The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine, as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases. GTP is a complex R&D organization consisting of research laboratories supported by multiple core functions which provide internal capacity to perform gene transfer studies from basic research through Phase 1 proof-of-concept human trials.

The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the ‘go-to' organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.

Continuation of all GTP positions is contingent upon funding.

Job Description

Due to the continued growth of our program, we are searching for a new Senior Research Investigator (SRI) to collaborate on gene therapy-related research projects focused on finding treatments for a wide range of neurodegenerative and neurological diseases, performing both theoretical and bench research.

As an SRI, in collaboration with your Research Director, you will execute on designed work plans. You may take the lead some related projects. In each case, you will be working in the setting of large interdisciplinary teams, where you will function in the execution of in vitro and in vivo experiments while working cross-functionally with core labs and resources. You will work closely with the research director to assure that the research program adheres to the work plan and stays within budget. Also, you will have the opportunity to present research externally and you may contribute to writing/reviewing manuscripts, protocols, and SOPs.

Qualified candidates will have expertise with in vitro and in vivo experiments as well as a strong background in neuroscience, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics or related field.

Joining GTP offers scientific professionals the unique opportunity of seeing their research go from bench to bedside and discoveries that could one day lead to cures.

Qualifications:
  • M.D., Ph. D., D.V.M. Degree in the field of neuroscience, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or related field or equivalent doctoral degree and 5 years of postdoctoral experience is required.
  • Experience working in industry is preferred, but not required.
