Position Description

The University of Washington’s Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine, is seeking applicants for a full-time (1.0 FTE) faculty position to be based at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS). This position will include serving as an attending physician on the Hospital & Specialty Medicine Service Line at VAPSHCS, resident and student supervision, and generating scholarly works related to medical education.

This position will be at the Assistant Professor rank (without tenure due to funding) on the clinician/scholar pathway. Assistant professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. The anticipated start date would be July 1, 2023.

Salary

This position is paid directly by VAPSHCS and receives no UW compensation.  Please refer to VAPSHCS for information about compensation for this position.

Qualifications

Applicants must have an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent) and board certification* in Internal Medicine (or foreign equivalent).

Eligible candidates must have an established record of at least five years as a teacher in a university setting, with both medical students and residents, as well as at least three years of leadership experience.  Applicants must show evidence of scholarly productivity and peer-reviewed publications of original studies related to medical education. 

Applicants must be U.S. Citizens (permanent residents may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).

*Note: Board certification in Internal Medicine must be completed within two years after residency.
