The University of Northern Colorado Libraries seeks a collegial and creative thinker with strong communication skills for the position of University Archivist. Reporting to the Head of Archives and Special Collections, the University Archivist will manage, promote, and make accessible University records.  
Responsibilities: ·       

 

  • Plan, develop, and implement the university archives within an academic library setting. 
  • Work directly with individual academic departments and units to acquire official university records. 
  • Appraise potential collection additions and make recommendations for acquisition of new collections, particularly records reflecting diverse perspectives of campus life.·       
  • Prioritize, oversee, and participate in accessioning, arrangement, description and preservation of archival collections in physical and digital formats. 
  • Create finding aids using contemporary tools in accordance with national standards.·    
  • Provide reference services for Archives and Special Collections. ·       
  • Assist with digitization selection and planning by working closely with the Digital Collection Librarian.   
  • Support the department’s instruction and outreach program, including working with university faculty to increase usage of resources in support of learning and research, and assisting with exhibits and programs. 
  • Participate in the collection of oral histories as appropriate.·       
  • Supervise student and intern work. 
  • Maintains professional knowledge base and skills through continued education and/or research.·       
  • Demonstrate a commitment to access, equity, diversity, and inclusion through remediation of institutional biases inherent in archival practices. 
  • Teach information literacy instruction sessions and provide research consultations for students and faculty.·       
  • Actively participate in library committees and team-based projects. 
  • Additional job duties as assigned based on individual knowledge, skills, and abilities. 

The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and prioritize work assignments within a vibrant and stimulating environment.  This is a faculty-level position with an expectation of scholarly activity and service in addition to the activities listed above.  Additional information about the University Libraries may be found at: https://library.unco.edu
