Description

The Division of Arts and Humanities at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) invites applications for a tenure/tenure-track Professor position in the music program.

We seek a dynamic scholar-practitioner specializing in Arab music (broadly construed), who will enhance the current offerings in the music program. Successful candidates should have international research and performance profiles demonstrated by a consistent track record of peer-reviewed publications, recordings and performances. We are especially interested in candidates who engage with the music of the Arabian Gulf, and who combine research and artistic practice. Candidates should have substantial college teaching experience in a liberal arts context, be able to contribute to the diversity of intellectual life at NYU Abu Dhabi, and possess excellent communication skills. Candidates should be prepared to teach seminar courses at all levels, and to supervise research. The ability to teach music ensembles, and group and private instruction in Arab musical instruments at both undergraduate and graduate levels would be an advantage. We particularly welcome applications from women and members of traditionally underrepresented groups.

The Music program offers a Bachelor of Arts in Music and minors in Arab Music Studies and Sound and Music Computing, all delivered in a liberal arts university setting. There are also plans to offer a graduate program in music. Arab music is an important area of the program under development, and individual instruction and ensemble experiences are available to all students at NYUAD. Music majors are able to pursue capstone experiences in all areas of music, including performance, musicology, composition and technology, singly or in combination. Successful candidates will be affiliated with the Music and Sound Cultures Research Group (https://masc.hosting.nyu.edu), a group dedicated to research in music and sound cultures from the Arab world and surrounding regions through computational and humanistic methods.
