The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking applications for an Associate Director of Engaged Scholarship for the Urban Research & Community Engagement department working in the urbanCORE unit. UNC Charlotte’s urbanCORE is the hub of the university’s engaged scholarship ecosystem. It mobilizes, assesses and advances efforts that connect the University’s interdisciplinary, urban research resources to community assets in order to “co-produce transformative solutions to societal issues and challenges.”

Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate. Five to seven years of experience in higher education with an understanding of best theory and best practices in community-engaged teaching and research.

Essential Job Duties: The Associate Director of Engaged Scholarship provides direct support to the Director of Engaged Scholarship in the development and communication of partnerships that advance both the research and the organizational capacity of the Office’s various functions and coordinated efforts across campus. He or She will help build a culture of civic responsibility through experiential learning, community-based research and volunteerism. The Associate Director helps to build relationships between urbanCORE, University faculty and staff and community partners to enhance the quality of life in the Charlotte region through mutually beneficial partnerships.
Reporting to the Director of Engaged Scholarship, the Associate Director develops innovative approaches to supporting the community engagement research and teaching agendas of UNC Charlotte faculty. This includes producing professional development materials and conducting professional development sessions, convening faculty, building relationships with faculty and units across campus, and staying current of engaged scholarship best practices. Key internal partners include urbanCORE Strategic Community Partnerships, the Urban Institute, the Division of Research, Economic Development, department chairs and faculty committees, Center for Teaching and Learning, etc.
