Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a twelve-month, administrative faculty position as a tenured Professor and Associate Vice Provost for Student Success in the Office of the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs that begins July 1, 2023. 

Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Associate Vice Provost (AVP) for Student Success is a 12-month tenured professor position that provides strategic vision and institutional oversight to develop and implement inclusive policies, programs, services, and strategies that achieve the University’s student success goals. The successful candidate will develop and facilitate inclusive and innovative strategies, services, activities, and opportunities that increase student engagement, academic progression, academic support, and career development and will provide leadership in assessing the effectiveness of activities and programs undertaken to improve student success. The AVP for Student Success fosters collaborative partnerships with faculty, staff, administrators, academic departments/colleges and other units and centers to create and support a holistic environment for student learning and meaningful academic success. This individual also works closely with groups such as the National Institute for Student Success (NISS) to implement key improvements to the student experience. The AVP for Student Success serves on the Provost and Senior Vice President’s Leadership Team and the Academic Deans’ Council.

The responsibilities of the AVP for Student Success includes, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Providing leadership direction, strategic planning, and supervision for the following units: the Writing Center, Supplemental Instruction and Learning Assistants, the Smart Center, Academic Student Support Services, Employer Relations and Career Outreach, Student Support Systems, and Student Advising and Retention Services.
  2. Building a cohesive student success network by collaborating with academic colleges and other partners across the institution (e.g., Enrollment Services; Office of Diverse and Inclusive Excellence; Office of Institutional Research; the Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Office; Student Affairs; and University Housing).
  3. Providing leadership in standardizing academic advising systems and protocols to ensure students receive consistent, proactive support across all advising units and colleges.
  4. Collaborating broadly across two campuses to promote student success in all undergraduate and graduate degree programs through working alongside colleges to develop and assess outcomes of short-term and long-term goals to improve student achievement, engagement, progression, retention, and graduation rates.
  5. Providing leadership in building and maintaining systems for student success data, leveraging performance indicator tools, analyzing data, and sharing results on a frequent and regular basis with academic colleges and other university constituents and plans for timely interventions.
  6. Providing leadership to strengthen the ability of student support units to make proactive, data-informed decisions through better access to vetted, timely, and operationalized data (e.g., improving support services for courses with high DFWI rates) by identifying metrics and student performance indicators to determine effectiveness of student success efforts and also providing leadership in discontinuing, improving, and/or redirecting resources to improve results.
  7. Collaborating with the Associate Vice President for Curriculum and Academic Innovation and the Executive Director of General Education in supporting academic colleges in course and program redesign to improve course and program outcomes and providing campus-wide leadership in creating structures focused on the first-year experience.
  8. Envisioning, planning, and seeking funding for student success initiatives and programs.
  9. Staying abreast of and disseminating state policy/legislation and best practices related to student success.
  10. Performing other duties as assigned by the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Required Qualifications Include

  • A terminal degree from an accredited institution with qualifications to hold a tenured professor rank in one of the university’s academic departments.
  • Effective leadership in student success within an academic unit/department with demonstrated results and increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience using and analyzing data to lead, develop, and evaluate strategic initiatives that improve student success.
  • Knowledge of best practices for fostering student success and implementing change across an organization.
  • A successful track record of consensus building, and collaborative approaches to leading complex student success initiatives.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with experience creating and delivering effective presentations to internal and external audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to listen, to synthesize information from a variety of constituents, and use that information to build consensus and/or make decisions. 
  • Evidence of a track record of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as demonstrated by experience working with diverse populations and in promoting inclusive excellence in programs, policies, and practices.
  • Evidence of effective management of budget and unit resources.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize, coordinate and/or facilitate multiple projects and deadlines independently or with limited supervision.
  • Experiencing engaging in scholarship and scholarly activities focused on student success (e.g., securing grants, research, presentations, program development, assessment, and improvement).

Preferred Qualifications Include

  • A minimum of five years of effective leadership in student success with demonstrated results and increasing levels of responsibility working in an academic setting.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness leading student success initiatives in a large, complex environment.
  • Leadership experience in the area of curriculum development.
  • Experience with co-curricular program development, assessment, and improvement.
  • Knowledge of student information systems such as Banner and EAB Navigate.
