Overview

Princeton University’s Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination (LISD), based at the School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA), has an immediate opening for a Finance and Operations Specialist. This professional works closely with the Executive Director on all finance and operations for LISD, particularly on budgeting, the institute's endowment, grants, staffing, independent contractors, spending and ensuring the accuracy of all financial reporting. This position also supports institute operations, events, visiting scholars and department guests appointments and partnership implementation.

The Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination has been at Princeton University for over 23 years and supports research, teaching and policy outreach activities on contemporary European and Eurasian politics.



Responsibilities

Budget and Financial Administration:

The Finance and Operations Specialist assists with all budget and financial matters, monitors and updates the administrative budget and institute spending, provides regular and timely analysis and projections of the available funds, prepares all necessary reports for the Executive Director. This professional is responsible for careful and appropriate use/allocation of the administrative allowance, endowed funds, restricted funds, etc. This professional works closely with SPIA Finance and all other internal and external partners.

Academic and Student Administration:

This professional supports with institute Faculty, Visiting Scholars and Department Guest appointments, as well as student hiring, ensuring that the academic department meets all internal deadlines. These duties include monitoring the teaching budget and labor accounting; preparing materials for appointments for faculty and visitors; and administering the visiting faculty and fellows program.

Facilities and Space Administration:

This professional supports the use and maintenance of offices and institute suite spaces, handles EMS reservations and works closely with SPIA IT and Facilities for day to day operations and events.

Events Logistics:

This professional supports the Executive Director and works closely with the Administrative and Events Assistant with the Institute's events, workshops, lecturers/talks as well as domestic and international visits.



Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree. Minimum 5 years of finance and operations experience. Experience in budget administration and financial operations administration. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to anticipate and initiate appropriate action in support of the Executive Director. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to collaborate effectively. Fluency with desktop computing tools such as Word and Excel. Skill with email programs, website programming, and desktop publishing. Flexible and adaptive to changing needs and priorities. Discretion and good judgment, handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately. Ability to work evenings and weekends, rarely, only as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work experience in an academic environment, and an understanding of scholarly communities, priorities, and standards.
  • Experience with systems used by Princeton (Prime, Concur, Labor Accounting, SharePoint, Outlook).
