International Student Services Associate

About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting directly to the Director of Student Services & Operations in the Office of Global Services (OGS), the International Student Services Associate supports the OGS team by providing operational, logistical and administrative support for international students and scholars. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, supporting in-person and online events and activities organized and hosted by OGS, including working with facilities and events management to provide technical support in booking, and setting up physical space, or creating, monitoring, and facilitating online webinars. Additionally, the International Student Services Associate will supervise and manage student employees through hiring, onboarding, and training, as well as scheduling needs.

As needed, the International Student Services Associate will schedule, organize, and participate in all other OGS activities, including Travel Signature Sessions, Orientations, and OGS Student Sponsored Programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Manage all OGS communication needs by overseeing the day-to-day messaging and execution of user-focused communications that inform and engage university stakeholders across global campuses. To achieve this, the individual consults and collaborates effectively and often across the organization, including with other members of the OGS team and key university stakeholders. The Associate develops communications plans and strategies that address needs identified by the leadership team. Develops and manages email, website, and other communication content, including crisis communications, network outages, project updates, training and support, and general outreach. Uses key performance factors, solicits feedback from leadership, and other key stakeholders to generate a monthly assessment of communication effectiveness.
  • Serve as an integral player in student outreach throughout all phases of the international student and scholar lifecycle. In collaboration with other OGS team members, coordinates, produces, and distributes a newsletter to all international students and key stakeholders to inform and bring attention to key issues, such as F-1 nonimmigrant status reminders, campus resources and cultural awareness. Coordinates and manages all media of communications and ensures that communication goals are aligned with and support the strategic messaging of the office and the university.
  • As needed, the International Student Services Associate will participate in the review of e-form requests from international students for new student I-20 requests, employment benefits, travel endorsements, etc. They will serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and utilize the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) to perform necessary functions, gather data, create reports, etc. The International Student Services Associate is expected to serve in the DSO On Call rotation to field any escalated phone calls with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and use appropriate judgement in assisting students through travel emergencies.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The following competencies are integral to the successful performance as the International Student Services Associate:
  • Bachelor's degree in International Education, Communications, Business, Management or related field required.
  • 3+ years of experience in higher education or in a marketing and communications field.
  • Some knowledge of or training in international student advising (F-1 and J-1 visa classifications) plus a strong customer service background
  • Proven track record of planning and creating engaging digital and visual content and campaigns, which may include strong written copy, graphics and images, videos, and other digital content. Exceptional critical-thinking and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Ability to execute projects and work in a fast-paced and sometimes uncertain environment.
  • Knowledge of content management systems (ie: WordPress) to develop and support web properties.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Word, Sharepoint, Excel, Teams, and Outlook, and has the ability to use them in a collaborative setting.
  • Some knowledge of Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and/or other web data analytics tools.
  • Ability to analyze data and feedback to provide recommendations and action items.
  • Picks up technical concepts quickly and is comfortable with organizational and process-related change within a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be detail-oriented, have excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task in a demanding work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Exercises sound judgement and utilizes discretion and confidentiality when handling complex/escalated student cases

  • Experience with Global/International Office a plus.
