Job Description

Reporting to the Research Impact Coordinator, the Research Impact Analyst will work in a team-based environment to provide consultations and deliver services related to documenting, collecting, and analyzing research and scholarly activity data to demonstrate impact, provide evidence of research competencies, and uncover potential for key national and global collaborators.

This will also include education and outreach on key researcher profile systems, such as Virginia Tech Experts and ORCID, and research information management (RIM) systems, such as Symplectic Elements; and strategies for communicating about research, scholarly, and creative work and impact. The incumbent will work with the team to provide specialized support for bibliometrics, network visualization options, and emerging applications of impact data.

The incumbent will also be liaison librarian to one program, department, or institute that is related to the incumbent’s background and/or expertise.

The incumbent will partner with colleagues across the Libraries and University (such as Faculty Affairs, academic colleges, Office of Research and Innovation, and others), and support the Virginia Tech community across all locations, including distance and online locations.

The University Libraries provide funding for and support employees in dedicating time to ongoing professional development, research, scholarship, and engagement with professional and public communities.

Required Qualifications

-M.L.S. or M.L.I.S. degree from an ALA-accredited graduate program or equivalent graduate library science or information science program degree; or an advanced degree in another position-related field; or equivalent combined education and experience in institutional effectiveness or unit engaged in research assessment or research information management systems
-Experience working as a professional in a large research-intensive university, national lab, or similar research-intensive institution
-Education, training, or experience with one or more of the following: researcher profiles and identifiers, scholarly activity data systems and documentation methods, and/or related platforms, software, tools, or databases
-Experience designing, planning, implementing, and maintaining complex projects or services
-Education, training, or experience with research impact metrics
-Evidence of knowledge, background, or experience in current and emerging trends or theories in academic research and scholarship, including equity in research, open research practices, and scholarly communication
-Experience engaging in inclusive practices within work responsibilities to promote a workplace that is welcoming to a diverse workforce and community

Preferred Qualifications

-Experience with research impact metrics documentation, analysis methods, bibliographic databases, and research analytic software and/or tools such as Scival, InCites, or Academic Analytics
-Experience providing services related to research impact metrics, bibliometrics, altmetrics, -and/or research assessment via consultations, instruction, training, or other means
-Experience in data management and/or data science
-Experience in library services and support for interdisciplinary research approaches, teams, and programs
-Experience providing instruction or training of others, such as: in the use of research profile systems, research and/or project management software or technology, including for collaborative working practices, or related
-Working knowledge of Python or R
-Familiarity with responsible, equitable, and fair research assessment approaches, philosophies, initiatives, and/or practices
