Job Details

The Director of Academic Innovation reports to the Provost and works collaboratively with the President, Provost, Deans and the Assistant Vice President for Business Development and Partnerships and other units of campus. Responsibilities will be divided equally between PACE, the Gardner-Webb Online Program, and Digital Learning. The Director understands the evolving needs of nontraditional students and works with the university team to analyze the needs of target populations to identify, develop, and deliver online/hybrid credit and noncredit program offerings and to ensure the campus is following best practices in online course design and delivery.

THE DIRECTOR WILL EXERCISE LEADERSHIP BY:

  • Leading the design and operational aspects of PACE program courses, workshops, certificates and events offered at the Charlotte Center and future satellite locations,
  • Assisting with the development of new programs for PACE by providing operational leadership for logistical functions,
  • Providing input for design and deployment of selected topics and offerings in the PACE program,
  • Planning and implementation of initiatives in online adult education and maintaining a highly active role in shaping the overall education experience for online learners
  • Development of innovative and high-yield programs in the PACE and GWU Online programs
  • Directing management of Gardner-Webb Online, non-traditional degree programs and offerings,
  • Guiding in curriculum development and the identification of new programs where appropriate,
  • Developing and delivering new programs and resources tailored to the needs of the university as well as the expansion of innovation culture across programs
  • Serving as liaison with Acadeum
  • Coordinating efforts related to Blackboard LMS, Kaltura, and Qwickly
  • Coordinating University Catalog efforts
  • Facilitating best practices in online teaching
  • Advancing the Universities network of external relationships in the region and internationally,
  • Assisting the University with fund-raising efforts as needed,
  • Managing program budgets.

THE DIRECTOR WILL DEMONSTRATE:

  • Proven leadership skills,
  • Outstanding communication abilities,
  • Experience in higher education,
  • Familiarity with business, healthcare, education and other potential program areas,
  • Familiarity with accreditation,
  • Support for online education and the rapidly evolving world of new educational technologies.

BASIC EXPECTATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Graduate degree in a relevant field, doctorate preferred,
  • Prior leadership with higher education, industry training, or other related field
  • Experience planning, designing and implementing new initiatives that provide value to the learner experience and the institution,
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing complex projects, operations, and budgets,
  • Experience with LMS management,
  • Personal commitment to the University mission,
  • Excellent communication skills including strong writing and presentation skills,
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and strategically using professional judgment
  • Strong time management and organization skills
  • Ability to work collaborative with multiple university programs and leaders,
  • Collegiality, integrity,
  • Commitment to student learning, particularly non-traditional education.
