As a member of the executive leadership team, reporting directly to the College President, the purpose of this role is to be an effective leader of the finance and accounting functions of the College. This involves engagement in planning, implementation, and oversight of all financial matters. The Vice President for Business Services and CFO is a team-oriented professional who openly models a commitment to the mission and core values of John A. Logan College.  The individual must have the ability to communicate effectively and develop working relationships with both internal and external constituents.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for maintaining and enhancing the College's financial and accounting system controls and standards. Direct all financial activities and accounting practices.
  • Manage the operations of the Business Services division including but not limited to accounts receivable, accounts payable, budgeting, cash and investment management, financial reporting, fixed assets, foundation accounting, grant accounting, insurance packages, payroll and benefits, purchasing and receiving, risk management, student billing, and tuition rate planning.
  • Reporting lines include Financial Operations, Bursar Office, Conferences and Events, Information Technology, Payroll Office, Purchasing and Auxiliary Services.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate direct reports.
  • Serve as the Treasurer for the College and the JALC Foundation Board.
  • Coordination of professional services such as audit, banking and investments, insurance broker, food service, vending, and bookstore operations.
  • Manage preparation, analysis, presentation, approval, and submission of the College’s annual legal budget with revenue and expenditure projections.
  • Participate in capital planning and budgeting for construction, renovation, and capital equipment purchases.
  • Oversee tax levy preparation, presentation to the Board of Trustees, and ensure submission to the district’s counties.
  • Plan for issuance of debt when necessary and work with underwriters and financial advisors.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant governmental regulations related to a community college including federal, state, and local.
  • Review business contracts and lease documents.
  • Oversee and report on the disbursement of funds, provide cash flow information to the College President and the Board of Trustees.
  • Participate in short-term and long-term strategic planning, and accreditation efforts.
  • Assist with collective bargaining activities as needed.
  • Serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet and Executive Council.
  • Serve as a member of administrative and Board committees.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to the college campus and the Board of Trustees.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the College President.


Qualifications:

Required: Master's degree in Accounting, Business, or related field and at least five years of higher education or governmental experience

Preferred: Chief Financial Officer experience or CPA

Salary:
The annual salary range for this position is $120,000 - $135,000.
