VCU Libraries invites qualified applicants to apply for the Senior Library Specialist 1 role of Research and Education Coordinator. This position is responsible for assisting faculty librarians in the support of research, reference, programming/events, and educational outreach for the students, faculty, and staff of the VCU Medical College of Virginia (MCV) Campus.
This role is integral to achieving core initiatives of VCU Libraries including, advancing research collaboration and discovery as well as promoting learning and teaching success in the health sciences. Reporting to the Head, Research and Education this position works directly with faculty librarians to design, create and disseminate promotional materials relating to Research and Education programs, departmental reports, and educational materials. This position will supervise at least one part-time student worker and work collaboratively with other divisions at VCU Libraries to plan student success initiatives at the Health Sciences Library.
The position provides leadership for event planning, programming, and coordination at the Health Sciences Library and works collaboratively with members of the Health Sciences Operations department and the VCU Medical Center Health and Wellness Library, located in the VCU Health Gateway Building, to provide customer service as necessary. This position will be responsible for coordinating events at the Health Sciences Library including but not limited to; the Health Sciences Webinars Series, Weeks of Welcome, the Real Life Film Series, StudyWell, and take a leadership role in conducting the Health Sciences Library Student Advisory Committee. The position will also be responsible for coordination of the Health Sciences Library social media presence on multiple platforms.

Description of General Responsibilities
- Provides support for the student success, outreach, and faculty
engagement efforts of the Research and Education department.
- Coordinates Research and Education department initiatives,
including but not limited to designing and creating educational
materials for training sessions, event and programming management,
and promotion of Research and Education services and educational
offerings.
- Works collaboratively with faculty and staff from Research and
Education as well as other departments to plan, coordinate, and
host events in the Health Sciences Library (HSL) including the
RealLife Film Series, StudyWell, Weeks of Welcome, and other
similar events.
- Coordinates efforts related to student engagement at the HSL,
including direct engagement with the HSL Student Advisory
Committee.
- Uses creativity and design expertise to develop promotional
materials including but not limited to print and digital signage,
email campaigns, and social media.
- Uses software to book and maintain classroom reservations and
track room use fees.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining event
registration.
- Maintains accurate reporting of statistics across various
platforms.
- Coordinates efforts to update and maintain departmental
resources on platforms including LibGuides and Wordpress.
- Generates reports based on collected statistical data on a
yearly or as needed basis.
- Creates engaging content and manages social media to promote
department and library activities.
- Reviews student worker budget for compliance, develops work
plan and position posting for student worker, and supervises
Research and Education student worker.
- Provides basic instruction and research assistance for library
users and refers more complex questions to librarians.
- Provides excellent customer service in all interactions with
library users.
- Staffs the Health Sciences Library (HSL) Service Desk and the
VCU Medical Center Health and Wellness Library on an as needed
basis.
- Attends professional development and training sessions.
- Must be able to travel between the Monroe Park and MCV Campus
as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in related field and/or 3-5 years of relevant
professional experience or equivalent combination of education,
experience, and training
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse
student, staff, and faculty environment or commitment to do so as a
staff member at VCU
- Ability to meet health standard criteria set by VCU
Health.
- Strong service orientation and enthusiastic public service
attitude.
- Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail .
- Knowledge of best practices for social media communication
including experience with Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or other
platforms.

Preferred:
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with
groups when necessary.
- Ability to prioritize multiple project deadlines.
- Excellent knowledge of computers and software applications such
as Google Workspace tools, and Microsoft Office programs as well as
other common desktop and web applications.
- Experience using Adobe Products including Illustrator and
Photoshop.
- Experience with adult education.
- Demonstrated project management experience.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to adjust work schedule based on business needs.
Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Some flexibility with hours, to be negotiated with supervisor. Possibility of some remote work. Occasional weekend work possible.
Salary Range: $40,000-$50,000
