The School Fiscal Officer will serve as a strategic leader for all financial and accounting operations in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences (BBS). The position will work closely with the Dean and Associate Dean of Administration to provide a high level of financial service to internal and external customers while ensuring that financial best practices and policies are established, maintained, and executed.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee financial operations, including financial planning for annual budgets and strategic initiatives in collaboration with BBS leadership.
  • Develop financial policies and procedures in compliance with university and state regulations.
  • Implement effective systems for internal controls and efficient business operations.
  • Supervise the finance team responsible for post-award grant accounting. 
  • Provide training for administrative staff on best practices.
  • Proactively review and monitor cost center activity for deficits.
  • Provide financial reports and other ad hoc business reports.
  • Review various business transactions for approval, including Account Reconciliations, Budget Journals/Transfers, Interdepartmental Transfers (IDTs), One Cards/Reconciliations, Payroll, Procurement, Scholarships/Fellowships, Work Orders, and other approvals.
  • Request new cost centers for operating accounts.
  • Facilitate funding process for faculty salaries, part-time lecturers, and teaching assistants.
  • Manage and authorize PeopleSoft and cost center access for appropriate staff.
  • Participate in University Council and other meetings to express ideas for strategic leadership.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting, information systems or related field; five plus years accounting/financial experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field. Five years of progressive experience in an accounting or financial position. Proficiency working with Excel and complex financial systems, financial reporting, financial modeling, accounting, budget development and financial policy development. Three years of supervisory experience. Ability to work under pressure with attention to detail to meet multiple deadlines. Strong analytical skills and problem resolution experience with complex financial matters. Knowledge of sponsored research administration working with grant awards in a higher education environment. Professionalism in employing diplomacy, discretion, and confidentiality in all business matters to successfully work with faculty and staff in supporting financial roles and responsibilities.

Additional Information:

After the appropriate training period, this position may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the DFW Area for prompt arrival on campus with a 24-hour notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval
