Job Description:
Columbia, Missouri Day Campus seeks an Adjunct (part-time) instructor to teachARTS 271: Ceramics Iand the stacked advanced courses in ceramics possibly includingARTS 373 Ceramics 2, ARTS 375 Ceramics 3, ARTS 476 Ceramics 4, ARTS 480 Ceramics 5, ARTS 490 Ceramics 6in-seat in the Fall 2023 semester. All courses are scheduled to run Tuesday & Thursday; Ceramics 2-6 is from 8:00am-10:50am and Ceramics 1 is from 12:30pm-3:20pm.

ARTS 271:Beginning study of three-dimensional principles of ceramics open to art majors and non-majors. The techniques of wheel-throwing and hand building are introduced with an emphasis on the development of an understanding of the form and functions of utilitarian and non-functional projects in clay. The design quality and aesthetics of the project are emphasized.

ARTS 373:Continuation of the study of three-dimensional principals of ceramics.

ARTS 375:Continuation of the study of three-dimensional ceramics. Advanced techniques of the potter's wheel, glazing, and firings are introduced with an emphasis on the development of an understanding of the form and functions of both hand building and potter's wheel projects.

ARTS 476: Continuation of the study of three-dimensional ceramics. The emphasis is on individual expression in clay using both hand building and wheel throwing techniques. Exploration with glazing and advanced firing techniques is encouraged.

ARTS 480:Advanced study of three-dimensional principles of ceramics using the potter's wheel. Introduction to the theory and practical issues of the ceramic kiln, both gas-fired and electric. Introduction and overview of glaze formulation.

ARTS 490:Continuation of the advanced study of three-dimensional principles of ceramics using the potter's wheel. Continuation of the theory and practical issues of the ceramic kiln, both gas-fired and electric. Continuation and refinement glaze formulation.

Qualifications:
MFA or a terminal degree in Ceramics or a closely related field a plus. Experience working in the ceramics field with high fire gas kiln experience is preferred. Candidates with collegiate experience teaching ceramics courses is also preferred.
