The Department of Agriculture, Veterinary and Rangeland Sciences (AVRS) at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a non-tenure track Teaching Assistant Professor position starting July 2023. This position will be an integral component of the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) and the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources (CABNR).

Teaching responsibilities include instruction in both introductory and advanced undergraduate courses, as well as mentoring and advising of undergraduate students enrolled in the Veterinary and Agriculture Science majors. Applicants should demonstrate strong evidence of effective teaching, curriculum development, and advising/mentorship of undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds. The candidate must be able to work in a multi-cultural setting and create an environment that fosters collegiality, diversity and teamwork while contributing to our institutional and departmental missions.

Teaching and Outreach responsibilities include: 1) three to four undergraduate courses per semester, including participation in existing team-taught courses; 2) mentorship and career advising for undergraduate students; 3) providing service to the program and department, and 4) development of new courses or internship programs with external organizations. Travel within Nevada is expected in order to connect with stakeholders, promote the undergraduate educational degrees and support development, implementation and maintenance of the Veterinary Science and developing Animal Science programs.

Required Qualifications

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) from an AVMA Accredited Institution or Ph.D. in Animal Science or a closely related field. Demonstrated potential for effectiveness in teaching including a strong desire to work with and mentor undergraduate students interested in careers in animal health and welfare. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary department of professionals. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

Applicants with experience (2 or more years) teaching veterinary & animal science related coursework at a University level or clinical veterinary medical experience. Applicants with knowledge of Nevada’s animal production systems and veterinary science needs

Compensation Grade

Teaching Assistant Professor, 9 month B contract, salary range: $55,012 - $84,664
