Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam Review Coordinator (Open to current Mines faculty)
The Opportunity

The Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Examination is available to current Mines seniors in ABET-accredited engineering programs (including Engineering Physics) who are within 12 months of receiving their bachelor’s degree. Those who complete both the exam and their engineering degree program successfully are issued an Engineer Intern certification by the Colorado State Board of Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors.

Mines has offered review sessions for students in the past which were cancelled effective March 2020. The Office of UG Studies is looking to revive the ten-session review course during Fall and Spring semesters for students interested in taking the FE Exam. The course will be offered on campus and will be free for all current Mines students. Others will be welcome to attend for a tax-deductible fee.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the main POC for students inquiring about the FE Exam and review sessions.
  • Evaluate and assess the demand of in-person review sessions. Coordinate the development of online sessions for the future based on this evaluation.
  • Recruit faculty, grad students, alumni, retired faculty or practitioners from the community to lead and present the review sessions on different topics.
  • Work with the Program Manager in the office of Undergraduate Studies to schedule each of the ten review sessions in Fall and Spring semesters. In the past these sessions have been held on Wednesdays from 7 – 9 PM.
  • Work with the Program Manager in the office of Undergraduate Studies to establish contracts, responsibilities and payroll for session lead instructors.
  • Design, coordinate and administer any necessary training for session lead instructors.
  • Advertise and market the availability of these sessions to current students, and alumni. ·
  • Maintain and update the FE exam review session web page .

Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters or PhD in an engineering discipline.
  • Strong, demonstrated background and knowledge in becoming a professional, licensed engineer.
  • Demonstrated engagement on campus through institutional service.
  • Current Mines Teaching or T/TT faculty.
  • Must be detail oriented and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate concepts, needs, processes and milestones to a diverse audience.
  • Must be a proactive, self-starter who can complete assignments with minimal oversight
  • Diplomacy, professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Must be invested in students’ success and willing to support and assist students.

Pay Range

Mines is offering an academic year stipend of $5,000.00.

Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
