As an integral part of the UTHSC- COD leadership team, the full-time, tenure-track Associate Dean for Research will promote research and education by:

  • Providing oversight, prioritization, and management of COD research programs and resources
  • Growing the basic, clinical, translational, and educational research portfolios of the COD
  • Facilitating collaborative research and scholarly activities within the COD, across UTHSC colleges, the state of Tennessee, and the global research community
  • Providing oversight on activity and growth of the COD’s Research programs and centers, including Clinical Research, Craniofacial Research, Biomaterials and Stem Cells and Regenerative Biology.
  • Ensuring the COD remains current in research trends and applications
  • Oversight of faculty and student research programs
  • Providing direction, integration, and support of student research programs
  • Providing oversight of and promoting research events, such as the annual COD Student Research Day, Showcase, and IADR/AADR receptions
  • Representing the COD on the UTHSC Research Council and related University committees
  • Representing the COD Office of Research to internal and external academic communities, alumni, business and industry, government, foundations, patient and practitioner groups, and the general community
  • Coordinating with Department Chairs to develop departmental research plans and Faculty Affairs concerning faculty development
  • Cultivating an environment of inclusion and respect for students, faculty, and staff

The successful candidate will develop and lead a major research program within the College of Dentistry; engage the substantial expertise throughout the UTHSC campus and take a leadership role with research activities and initiatives; provide leadership and management of the college’s research enterprise, which includes strategic planning for research, assisting with recruitment and retention of research faculty and staff, mentoring and advising, review and approval of research proposals and oversee compliance with university research policies and procedures, while continuing to conduct a strong, well-funded research enterprise.

Qualifications

  • DDS/DMD, PhD, and/or equivalent degree
  • Current rank of associate or full professor
  • A distinguished record of sustained externally funded oral health-related research supported by NIH RO1, P, or U award mechanisms or equivalent funding source(s) is required.
  • Demonstrated administrative or leadership experience
  • Evidence of leadership in collaborative research addressing complex oral and medical conditions, including collegiate, university, national and/or international academics and scientific experience in teaching and research mentoring of faculty and students
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment
  • A distinguished record of sustained externally funded research, preferably in the areas of Regenerative science, Oral & Craniofacial-related research, or other related areas as measured by previous and current grants (active NIH RO1, P, or U awards) and peer-reviewed publications is highly preferred
