Position Summary:

The College of Agriculture at Arkansas State University, Jonesboro campus, invites applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor (Ph.D.) or Instructor (master’s) in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This position is a full-time, non-tenure track, 9- month appointment. Faculty members deliver instruction, perform service for their respective profession and community, and participate in management of the university through shared governance

This position will help support an online program in GIS and Precision Agriculture. Each member of the faculty has the duty to deliver instruction and maintain an environment conducive to learning that is consistent with the highest standards of the profession

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Teaching five (5) courses (15 credit hours) per semester, (both fall and spring) while contributing service to both the college and university. Teaching responsibilities include the development/update and delivery of courses in Geographic Information Science, including: GIS, Global Navigation Satellite Systems, and Spatial Data Science. Other course assignments are intended to be aligned with the individual’s expertise and interest; examples of other potential courses include: Agronomic Prescriptions, Earth Science, Hydrology, Irrigation, Precision Agriculture, Regenerative Agriculture, Remote Sensing, Soils, Story Mapping, and Unmanned Aircraft Systems. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Must have teaching ability in higher education
Must have knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, including Spatial Analyst extension

Preferred:
Familiarity with ESRI ArcGIS Network Analyst &/or Geostatistical Analyst extensions, FieldX or other crop scouting applications, Google Earth Engine, Pix4D, QGIS, R (with raster &/or spatial packages), Ag Leader SMS

General Days/Hours:

Monday – Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance
Working schedule is determined by teaching/service assignments

This is a one academic year appointment with opportunity for renewal of contract based on satisfactory performance

Minimum Qualifications:

An earned Master’s Degree in GIS, Geospatial Technology, Precision Agriculture or a related field

Preferred:
GIS Professional (GISP) certification
Ph.D. in GIS, Geospatial Technology, Precision Agriculture or a related field
Candidates with ABD status are welcome
