Brief Statement of Duties

Brief Statement of Duties:

The successful candidate will be a strong teacher who will support our program's mission to prepare critically mindful outdoor professionals. An educator who can deliver quality educational experiences grounded in experiential and service based learning; manage risks according to outdoor recreation standards; implement sustainable practices; and promote inclusion, social justice and environmental stewardship. This is a campus-based position.

Primary responsibilities include teaching classroom and field based courses for the Outdoor Recreation Leadership and Management degree program, providing ongoing academic advisement to students, supervising internships, and service activities.

Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree

Required Minimum Work Experience:

An earned doctorate will be hired at the rank of Assistant Professor. Must have a variety of outdoor technical skills and a Wilderness First Responder certification. College undergraduate and graduate level teaching experience in the field of outdoor recreation/ education; a desire to teach both classroom, online and field based courses, evidence of research and scholarship. Ability to provide service to the department, the university and within the community. Must meet the requirements for Assistant Professor as described in the SHHP School bylaws.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:

Additional Desirable Qualifications

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

Experience working with diverse populations, relevant professional certifications, and Involvement with professional organizations in the outdoor industry;

Willingness to aid faculty in the development of the Outdoor Recreation Leadership and Management Bachelor Degree and the Administration of Outdoor Recreation and Nature-based Tourism curriculum.
