CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

Under general direction of the Chairperson, Human Development and Family Sciences (HDFS), the Clinical Internship Coordinator is responsible for helping secure, overseeing, supervising, and evaluating clinical internship experiences for Human Services and HRA majors in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences for both HDFS 334 (Experiential Education-50 hours) and HDFS 449 (Senior Internship). The Clinical Internship Coordinator provides assistance to students and field placement supervisors. In addition, the Clinical Internship Coordinator serves as an instructor for the Internship Readiness and Professional Skills building that is a prerequisite for student internships.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as instructor and develop course materials for the internship readiness course in the Fall and Spring Semesters.
  • Solely responsible for management of all aspects of internship placements, including locating and securing new placements, reviewing and drafting affiliation agreements and providing orientation seminars to pre-service interns.
  • Collaborate with the Human Services Program Coordinator and HRA program coordinator on issues related to student placements, internship eligibility and other departmental needs.
  • Coordinate with active internship providers each Fall and Spring semester in order to provide support if necessary.
  • Coordinate student eligibility clearances with the Office of Clinical Studies.
  • Conduct orientation meetings with pre-service students for both HDFS334 and HDFS 449.
  • Orient new field placement supervisors on the required activities in the placement and program policies.
  • Communicate with undergraduate students about placement requirements for HDFS 334 and HDFS449.
  • Work with field supervisors to evaluate student internship performance and progress throughout their placements.
  • Monitor student performance throughout the semester and communicate with them on a regular basis to address concerns.
  • Provide career guidance for students exploring career possibilities in efforts to facilitate relevant field placement searches, referring to Career Services when appropriate.
  • Coordinate with field supervisors & HDFS 449 Pre-Service interns to successfully place them at an agency for their senior-level internship in the subsequent semester.
  • Process additional clearances for requesting agencies hosting an intern when needed.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with approved local organizations and campus resources to cultivate and support internship placements.
  • Maintain and update department field placement site database for Human Services and HRA majors.
  • Assist in developing programs and seminars to build an environment to support diversity.
  • May be responsible for coordinating internships in study abroad programs by communicating with the study abroad program directors.
  • Write letters of recommendation for student interns when appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, Psychology, or other related field, with three years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work with diverse student and community populations.
  • Strong Microsoft Office and Google docs skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
